Answering as a Restauranteur.
The real rant has to come from Restauranteurs. Let me explain-
1. Swiggy or Zomato has no control over the listing prices. They did try to enforce this (dine-in prices = delivery prices) but couldn't do it for longer. I mean it's not practical to hold them accountable.
2. Commission>30%+ (including GST), Marketing 10-15% (Else no way to get decent # orders), Packaging 5%. About 50% is the cost of business. So yeah prices could be double of dine-in prices.
3. All the above are purely additional costs for a dine-in business. Only way is to pass on those costs to customers for the business to be sustainable.
4. Ideally S/Z should be charging customers more and about 10-15% commission from restaurants just like anywhere else in the world.
5. They do charge ~30rs per order from customers which is very less and should be 50-60rs. This is the cost of convenience.
6. Even after that S/Z would be burning a lot of money because of their new businesses - Qcom, Dineout, District etc. Effectively funded by restaurants now.
7. It's very difficult to sustainably run a Dine-in primary business.
8. A 3rd player has to emerge challenging the duopoly.
Hey @Swiggy, please explain. Why does ordering food in the app, 81% expensive than buying the same food from the same outlet, just 2kms away. Is this the real cost of convenience ? The extra that I have to pay to get the food delivered is INR 663.
Vipassana won’t hand you peace on a platter. It felt like being in Dark Souls on “hard mode.”
It hands you a mirror.
Shows reality as it is.
No filters. No simulations.
The rest is practice. And pain. And patience.
But man, it’s worth it. ✨
I just returned from 10 days of silence. No phone. No talking. No eye contact.
Just me, my monkey mind, and Vipassana meditation. 🧘♂️
Here’s what I went through (and why you might want to try it too) 🧵

Paradox of the mind:
It sharpens only when it rests.
After 10 days, my Whoop band showed 98% recovery & 100% sleep quality. My brain felt like it just came back from a spa retreat.

📍 This place in HSR, Arambam, serves millet dishes & crazy coconut chutneys - has become our go to place for light, quick meals.
How's it goinggg! Are y'all training for any upcoming running event?
@ShadmaShaikh "Kitchens" don't have an appearance to keep up for customers. Be it cloud or dine-in restaurants. Strict surprise hygiene audits are a must. Honestly, for customers choice of ordering shouldn't be about cloud vs restaurant. Only on quality (food and HYGIENE), taste and pricing.
