BREAKING: News legends Dan Rather and Sam Donaldson along with 250 journalists sign blistering letter demanding the White House Correspondents’ Dinner “stop the polite nonsense” forcefully call out Trump to his face!
In a powerful open letter, retired star journalists Rather (94) and Donaldson (92), along with more than 250 other members of the press, are urging the White House Correspondents’ Association to stop the usual polite nonsense and use this week’s dinner to directly confront Donald Trump’s unprecedented attacks on the free press.
The letter states that Trump’s “systematic, sustained, and unprecedented” assault on journalism – including retaliatory bans, lawsuits, defunding public broadcasting, arrests of reporters, and constant verbal attacks – makes it impossible for the dinner to continue as “business as usual.”
They are calling on the WHCA to issue a strong, public defense of the First Amendment from the podium, deliver a direct condemnation of Trump’s behavior, and toast the Constitution in front of the man who has spent years trying to destroy press freedom.
This is a remarkable moment: some of the most respected names in American journalism are saying enough is enough. Enough normalizing. Enough smiling and clapping while Trump attacks the free press every single day.
The letter makes clear that freedom of the press is not a partisan issue but a cornerstone of democracy, and must be defended.

Buttigieg: And my word of warning to my own political party is that we would make a terrible mistake if we thought that our job was to just take power somehow and then put everything back the way it was. That’s not what we’re here to do.
We’re not out to go around and just find all the little bits and pieces of everything that they smashed and tape it together and say, “Here you go, I give you the world as it looked in 2023.” That’s not going to work. It’s not what we need.
So much has changed, and the truth is they are destroying things right and left. They’re destroying a lot of good, important things. They’re destroying some useless things too, because they’re destroying everything. So now we get a chance to put things together on different terms.
Mail-in voting is safe, secure, and accessible. As Governor, we fought like hell to pass universal mail-in voting in Colorado. Now the president wants to end it.
We won’t let him.
NO on the SAVE America Act.
If you live in Virginia, tomorrow you have a huge opportunity to make it clear to the GOP that if they want to win, it won’t be by changing the rules and redrawing maps. At least, not without a fight. Vote YES on the redistricting vote, and push back!
Regardless of whether it’s all talk, when the leader of our country expresses plainly genocidal intent, everyone has to do something.
For citizens of all political stripes, it means rejecting this madness. For Congress, it means taking action to rein him in. Now.
Mary Trump on Democrats who want to return to normal after Trump: “If you think the solution to these horrors is to go back to where we were and resurrect the situations that made these horrors possible, you’re not a serious person. If you aren’t willing to reform the Supreme Court in significant ways. If you are not willing to undo every single thing Donald’s done and do away completely with traditions and norms and start codifying everything. If you’re not willing to get rid of the filibuster. If you’re not willing to draw a bright line in terms of Netanyahu’s government and in terms of Russia. If you’re not willing to abolish ICE and I would argue DHS also needs to be abolished”
🚨BREAKING: Lawrence O'Donnell looked America in the eye tonight and said on live TV what many are thinking about Donald Trump's profane, perverse, filthy outburst on Easter Sunday to commit war crimes.
