Today’s mystery artifact has words on it! We found it at the base of layer B north of the tavern, and east of the courthouse (TU 20). We think the first two words are “patent pending“ abbreviated. Could the last word be Ford? #publicarch#publicarchaeology#localhistory
Already a great day for archaeology in King William. In between the rain drops we are cleaning down test units and finding features. Happy to have younger volunteers, too. A little sunlight between the clouds. #publicarch#publicarchaeology#localhistory#historicpreservation

Internship opportunity!!! This is for tribal members aged 18-30 to assist with the planning and protection of the sacred native site of Werowocomoco in Yorktown, VA, as well as gain experience working with the National Park Service.
In the past few years they’ve had folks
and the NPS that we engage indigenous voices in historic preservation, and this gives the interns a chance to utilize their unique perspectives and build on their existing skills.
There are 2 internships available at entry-level. There are many benefits to this position such as
for the two churches (available for public events). The display case with items found in the recent dig and pictures of the current Museum exhibits will remain permanently on display in the lobby. Thanks Bob Hubbard for coordinating. #historicpreservation#publicarchaeology

New exhibits and plenty to see today (and on April 14th) at the King William Courthouse Historic District. Come by and celebrate our county’s heritage day and anniversary: 320years! Where did the time go? #courthousearchaeology#publicarchaeology#fairfieldfoundation
Archaeology days are back! Join us on March 24, April 11, April 14, and April 28 from 10-4 at the Tavern site next to the Historic Courthouse for tours of the site and to help with excavations.
Brilliant day of archaeology at the King William County Courthouse Tavern site. Great visitors, even better questions, and a fierce debate whether one can “clean” dirt.
Come out tomorrow (Saturday), visit the ongoing archaeology at the courthouse tavern site, and Maybe help us figure out what we see here. Is this an old road bed cutting through the tavern, hiding the building beneath it? Stay tuned! #courthousearchaeology#publicarchaeology
