CV FINAL.pdf is not final. CV FINAL FINAL 2.pdf is a cry for help. And Resume-newest-use-this-one.pdf will become a mystery the moment you update it again.

Use your name, the role or field, and perhaps the year. Michael-Taiwo-Engineering-CV-2026.pdf tells the recruiter what the file is before it opens.

Small details do not get you the job by themselves. They simply stop creating unnecessary friction before your experience gets a chance to speak.

When an employer asks for your salary expectation, do not answer as if money is an embarrassing topic.

Research the role, location and level. Understand the total package, not only the monthly number. Then give a sensible range or ask for the approved range before committing.

Your answer can be calm. It can leave room for discussion. It does not need a speech about passion.

Passion is lovely. Rent remains unmoved.

Your LinkedIn headline does not have to be a small novel separated by vertical lines.

Engineer | Strategist | Visionary | Disruptor | Storyteller | Global Citizen.

After the sixth title, the reader may still not know what you actually do.

Use the words a sensible person would search when looking for someone with your skills. State the work. Add the industry or problem you understand. Keep the poetry for another part of the profile.

Clarity is searchable.

I interviewed candidates for Shell for years. One common problem had nothing to do with intelligence.

People answered the question they prepared, not the question they were asked.

You ask about a conflict. They give a speech about leadership. You ask what they personally did. They keep saying 'we.' You ask for the result. They start another story.

Preparation is good. Rehearsal is good. But an interview is still a conversation. Listen to the exact question. Take a second. Choose one relevant example. Explain your action and the result.

A polished answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer.

Your CV should not read like the job description hired itself.

'Responsible for reporting.'

Fine. What reports? For whom? How often? What decision did the report support? Did you reduce errors, save time, improve revenue, help a team or keep a project from falling apart?

A recruiter is not inside your old office. They cannot see the workload behind one vague bullet point. Give them enough detail to understand the scale and the value.

You do not need to decorate ordinary work. You need to describe it properly. There is a difference.
