learning that jack antonoff helped create some of the strange, distorted vocal effects on midnight rain
and question…? by physically manipulating recording tape makes me appreciate midnights even more because those songs genuinely sound like memories being pulled apart while you’re still trying to make sense of them. the voices bend, the sounds shift, and everything feels slightly disconnected from reality, almost like remembering a conversation at 2AM and wondering whether it happened the way you remember and i love that taylor’s music can make something as complicated as nostalgia feel like an actual sound. and now i want to listen to the entire album again with headphones just to catch every little detail i might’ve missed.
I saw someone say Taylor's Magnum opus is folklore???
Taylor's Magnum opus is RED and and this decade's red is TTPD
folklore has nothing to do with Taylor's actual music if you recommend it to someone as a way for them to get to know Taylor you are setting it up for failure
Repeating “I had a feeling so peculiar that this pain WOULD be for evermore” during the whole song only to say “I had a feeling so peculiar that this pain WOULDN’T be for evermore” near the end then ending with “This pain wouldn’t be for evermore” ended evermore (album) perfectly
thinking about “skydiving as you wrapped your arms around my body” and “pushed from the precipice, clung to the nearest lips” and “i don’t like that falling feels like flying ‘til the bone crush”
I love the metaphor of watches. they represent riches but they also symbolize time. time is money. he keeps it "in the safe", perhaps to invest later, but time is something you can't get back.
and then later, when he's on top of that ladder, he regrets how he chose to spend it.
someone in the music industry heard teardrops on my guitar and suggested taylor replace “drew” with “you” because it would be more universal. so her response was basically: no. it’s about drew. and THAT tiny story from the new Taylor Swift: The Debut Years book explains so much about the writer she became. she understood before she even had a debut album that specificity doesn’t make a song less relatable. sometimes it’s the exact detail that lets somebody else crawl inside it.
she kept the name. millions of people who had never met drew still knew exactly who their drew was and maybe the universal part was never supposed to be the name. it was the feeling.
wait i came across the two businesses that took part in the daisy chain festival and now i feel so so bad for them and the experience they had 🤧 and they’re super kind and gracious about it, i hope they get this resolved and get paid asap
