FIFA is such a rancid organization. Over the course of their genocide against the Palestinians, the Israelis have killed hundreds of Palestinian athletes, including football players. It is a particularly nasty cruelty of the western liberal order to ask that the slaughtered ‘play’ with their killers.

This is a very good example of how democracy works at a local level in China 👇
To explain succinctly, at every administrative level in China, they have a "people's congress" (人民代表大会 - rénmín dàibiǎo dàhuì).
At the county, district and township level, representatives are directly elected by voters in their constituencies. Above that (prefectural cities, provinces, and the National People's Congress) - representatives are elected by the congress one level below.
Depending on the location, local people's congresses have more or less oversight power on local spending, appointments, and policy.
Zhejiang province is one of the places in China where people's congresses have the most power after an official named Xi Jinping - you may have heard of the guy - established a framework called "do practical things for the people" (为民办实事 - wèi mín bàn shí shì) when he was provincial party secretary in the early 2000s.
What "do practical things for the people" established was a principle that local people's congress representatives should have a direct say in how local public money got spent. Over time, this evolved into a formal voting system where representatives vote on proposed government projects.
They just exercised this power in a major way: the Huangyan District People's Congress (黄岩区人大) in Taizhou, Zhejiang voted on 16 major government investment projects for 2026 but killed two of them on the spot - a sports center and an irrigation megaproject, totaling over a billion yuan - with roughly 80% voting against.
This doesn't mean these 2 projects are dead forever but they're sent back to the drawing board. The responsible departments have to address whatever concerns representatives raised, bring in experts for further review, and resubmit when they're ready.
This is a level of local democracy that many people will probably be surprised exists in China: it's genuine democratic oversight, they can actually block government spending, and the executive has to go back and try again.
It's also - and this is where China is complex - something that surprised many people in China.
As I mentioned above, not all people's congresses have this sort of power and the story generated a lot of national interest - with many national outlets writing about it, such as Guancha (https://t.co/Ad94EJH3vt) or The Paper (https://t.co/EPPcXQxXRV).
So much so that the Zhejiang People's Congress deleted their original WeChat post about it. We don't know why - the story wasn't suppressed since so many state media outlets carried it - but the Zhejiang People's Congress probably didn't love being the face of a national debate about why other provinces aren't doing this too, as it amounts to throwing shade on their peers. I genuinely don't know, just a hypothesis.
Anyhow, that's China in all its complexity and why sweeping narratives about it are always wrong: a country where elected local representatives can genuinely exercise oversight power over the government thanks to reforms initiated by Xi Jinping himself, and where mainstream media boast about it, but where the provincial organ that broke the story would rather avoid the publicity.
here mr prime minister says india remains committed towards efforts of sustainability and a more prosperous planet — while the indian people die in heatwaves every year, it is a national disaster, but it’s given no budget. farmers wait for delayed rains, some will pay with their lives. data centres are handed water in a water-scarce country, 24% of the population doesn’t get water in india. the Great Nicobar project threatens forests, the shompen tribe, and entire ecosystems.
come on?!

Claire Kerrison was arrested at 4:33am from her Brighton home for sending emails concerning 'israel's' genocide in Gaza to her MP Peter Kyle.
Four police officer raided her home on 17 June 2025. They seized her electronics. Held her for over eight hours with no one knowing where she was. Released her on strict bail. Charged her in late 2025 under the Communications Act.
The case dragged on for a full year. She faced multiple court hearings including not-guilty pleas.
The emails were described by those who read them as articulate and non-abusive— simply expressing horror at events in Gaza.
The man who triggered the police complaint? Her own constituency MP, Peter Kyle:
- Britain's trade minister responsible for arms exports to 'israel'.
- Long standing member and previous vice-chair of Labour Friends of 'israel'
Kyle has been accused of breaching the Ministerial Code by failing to declare his LFI membership in the official List of Ministerial Interests for 18 months despite the clear conflict.
The case was finally dismissed yesterday, with costs awarded to Claire Kerrison.
This is why British politicians who are paid/influenced by the 'israel' lobby must be banned from public office.

The Economist says China should change its growth model "for its own sake". Note the timing: the same week it admits Chinese firms have outflanked Germany's carmakers, Korea's shipbuilders and US chip designers – and the EU is meeting to wall them out. When the people losing a race start offering the winner advice, read with caution.
FIFA’s handling of this World Cup shouldn’t shock anyone. This is the same organisation that has watched Israel carry out a genocide, and has still done nothing.
The amount of grief nations like Iran are carrying while being told to just “play football” under awful conditions on US soil, after everything that country has done to their people, is obscene.
What a Joke
🇮🇷🇺🇸 U.S. Gave an Iranian World Cup Player, Mehdi Torabi, a Visa Good for only ONE Entry
Torabi used it for the New Zealand opener in Los Angeles. The moment that match ended, his visa was expired.
The U.S. forced Iran to base in Mexico, leave American soil after every game, and re-enter for the next one. Under a setup built entirely on repeated entries, they handed one player a single entry.
The Iran Football Federation has taken steps to obtain a new visa for Torabi so that he can accompany the national team in upcoming matches.
This was NOT an accident.

At least 20 to 30 crore rural and poor Indians who do not consume internet data but use only voice and sms, will compulsorily be sold data every month, because Airtel and Reliance are above the law, above the state, and definitely above the citizens of this nation.
Rule of Law be damned and thrown in the gutters.
This is capitalism and free markets #NewIndia style.
