people genuinely believe their accent preferences are aesthetic when they're actually political. nobody is born finding a british accent more "proper" than a nigerian one or a french accent more romantic than an arabic one. that gets taught. through which voices got cast as villains and which got cast as love interests. through whose accent got subtitled like it needed translation and whose didn't, even when both were speaking english. and by adulthood the preference feels so natural that pointing out where it came from sounds like you're the one making it weird.
