You’ll never believe this shit…Me and the boys are having a rowdy time being rude in some dead guy’s house and this platelicking beggar wants to try and shoot a bow and arrow through some axes lmao good luck bro let’s see how this plays out
detail i love in every iteration of The Odyssey is shooting the arrow through the axes, bc it’s such a nebulously described task no one imagines it the same way
Inside of me there are two wolves. One of them thinks that was an insane horror sequence, the other is mad they turned Polyphemus into barely more than an animal and removed the Nobody bit.
My theory is that Nolan took the "Nobody" scene out on purpose to downplay Odysseus’ masculinity.
Part of the genius of the “Nobody” section is that Odysseus—in his all-consuming pride—can’t stand to know that Polyphemus thinks “nobody” defeated him. As he and his men are leaving the Cyclops' cave, he pompously declares that he, Odysseus, the sacker of cities, gouged out Polyphemus’s eye.
This prompts Polyphemus—armed now with the knowledge of Odysseus's identity—to pray to Poseidon that Odysseus and his men never return home.
Odysseus' own pride sets the story into motion and is effectively responsible for his own sufferings. But in Nolan's film, Odysseus is far from prideful and instead feels shame for his actions at Troy.
Including this scene would have changed the sort of Odysseus that Nolan wanted to create.
Kinda incredible this is happening in a year where the “Star Wars” movie flopped, the “Minions” movie underperformed, the live action “Moana” flopped, the big Warners superhero movie flopped, the “He-Man” movie flopped.
really hope its just spider-man looking out to see the fantastic four ship
and he remembers what happened last time he chased a ship coming down in new york
and goes back to bed
In America I ordered a milkshake and the young man turned it upside down over my head.
I did not move. A samurai does not flinch, even when the ice cream is above him and gravity is the law.
Nothing fell.
The cup hung there, upside down, defying the sky, and the boy held it over me with the calm of a man who has done this ten thousand times and buried his fear long ago.
This is the Blizzard. This is Dairy Queen.
If it falls, they told me, you get it free.
I understood at once. This was not dessert. This was an ordeal.
The boy was not showing off. He was swearing an oath, with his own arm, that he had made the thing thick enough to hang against the earth, and he was betting the price of it on his honor.
The flip is not a trick.
It is a vow.
In my land a smith proved his blade by cutting.
Here a boy of seventeen proves his by turning it over a stranger's head and looking him in the eye while the whole line waits to see if he lied.
He did not lie.
He set it upright, handed it to me, and said "there you go, man," then turned to the next customer as if he had not just gambled his good name across a counter.
I tipped him everything in my pocket.
He tried to give it back. He said it was just a Blizzard.
I told him it was not just a Blizzard.
I could not explain the rest in English, and there was a line, and he was busy.
So I bowed instead.
He said, "You too, man."
That answered nothing I had said.
It answered everything I had felt.
Philza: that whole larp shit is so cringe, I'm sorry. especially the Technolarp shit that went down, thank fuck he stopped. he should delete his channel "I didn't think anything was wrong with it!" his father was uncomfortable "I'm gonna keep the channel and rebrand!" fuck off
so this guy imitates a dead youtuber, didn't actually get consent to do it in the first place, gets called out, responds terribly, and now he's still using Techno's name to redirect others to a new channel...?
i guess bro
