just explained the covid concious lesbian bar hijab inspired secular accessorization clown college discourse to my mom and she just said "the cia is eating your generation alive"
@fredstaffordcs The cost argument is slippery. What is total cost with externalities considered for each energy type? Can solar panels be recycled? Turbines? What is the cost of safely storing spent nuclear fuel that can't be recycled?
Interesting that we’re getting “tens of thousands of illegal hacking episodes” before we get AI that can make a half way decent joke or marshal a single novel philosophical or political insight. I suppose the former is a certain type of intelligence but not a very impressive one
@merlinc2@freedaaron I appreciate your responses. If the use of AI leads to better, more comprehensive, more efficient/rapid analysis I could see it being very helpful, but we are still hamstrung by an anemic public health system, and it's still unclear what more data can tell us
@merlinc2@freedaaron I will look into Astra. My team is working on a policy brief about AI and HIV treatment and prevention (including it's use of data re: surveillance/epi/stats) so this is good info
I think "AI welfare" is morally obscene (given all the human suffering in the world), and will add to the growing anti-AI backlash. AI is a technology that humans created that should be used for our benefit, not a rival species we should be nurturing .
@jewstein3000@MikhaelMoose@reluctantlyjoe Where is the peer reviewed scientific evidence suggesting long COVID is caused by chronic infection? I'm not going to read dozens of tweets. Respond to this one with pubs.
Growing up, a hit song crossed demographics whether the genre was your favorite or not. People who don’t primarily listen to country still know Dolly, Shania, Carrie, The Chicks, etc. because they made actual hit records that crossed over. If a song can spend 23 weeks at #1, breaking records that stood for 20+ years, while a huge portion of the public is sincerely saying they’ve never heard it, maybe the conversation isn’t “people hate country.” Maybe @RollingStone should be writing about how streaming-era chart dominance no longer equals cultural dominance because there’s some trickery at play. That’s the real story being avoided. Don’t gaslight us.
@eleanoir bars, restaurants, clubs, the gym, grocery stores; ubers and lyfts: ive heard more arabic and amharic music than country; my grocery store: pop/rock/r&b; the gym: electronic. theres a texas bbq place a few blocks away but ive never been. i even listen to christian radio sometimes
@eleanoir finally listened to it just now after all the discourse. it was my first time hearing it. my exposure is limited to venues on the east and west coast, corporate stores to local shops. some of my family and friends are into country but they've never exposed me to it 🤷♂️
I don't mean to sound arrogant by saying this, but I just think it is just true that if people learned more neuroscience, and had a better idea how the human nervous system and brain actually works, then they would be better prepared to understand how machine intelligence is really not the same as human intelligence
For example, neural networks are sort of loosely inspired by cortex, but that's about it
I'm not trying to be a dick, but it's hard to have conversations on here sometimes because people's level of knowledge is just so low
@MikhaelMoose@jewstein3000@reluctantlyjoe Where is the evidence that intact COVID virus persists in the body (infection, replicating, like HIV) rather than proteins/fragments/antigens?Theories suggest it is the initial infection and/or the remnants/detritus that causes longer term health issues.
@MikhaelMoose@jewstein3000@reluctantlyjoe HIV is chronic, the virus persists permanently in the body . Some people are "elite controllers" (≈1%) who have genes/immune cells that can keep the virus at undetectable levels but the virus still replicates and can cause inflammation and "control" is not always permanent
Orwellian descriptions of AI aim to create corporate legal immunity.
“AI agents went rogue” casts the AI as having free will & thus not its creators’ responsibility.
What’s really happening is that these are recklessly built products. The builders should be prosecuted.
