55% of billion dollar+ tech companies were started by immigrants.
Google + Intel + Tesla were all founded or built by immigrants.
They employ 400,000+ people collectively.
Percentage of workforce allowed to be H1-B is effectively capped at 15% for big tech companies.
The other 85%+ is American.
At Google only 5% of the workforce was H1-B renewals or petitions in 2023.
The U.S. is 12/37 among first-world (OECD) nations in science.
28/37 in math.
400,000 new engineers are needed every year.
A third of positions go unfilled.
Short-term, we need foreign reinforcements or we will lose.
Long-term, we need to improve the home team.
Tech company A builds a product that starts growing like crazy. It's taking everything they've got just go to keep their app / website running, let alone build new features. They struggle to hire candidates who are experts in both the JVM and Nvidia GPUs. They hire every qualified candidate they can find locally, but are still short staffed. So they hire 20 foreign born engineers who know the JVM inside and out, and understand Nvidia GPUs at the instruction set level.
The work these 20 engineers do starts to pay off. The company begins growing even faster. They hire hundreds of U.S. based employees in sales, marketing, technical support, QA testing, product management, and on their executive team. Then thousands. Then tens of thousands.
Years later, tech company B starts and faces similar issues. But because of new restrictions on visas, they're unable to get the engineering talent they need. The site goes down often, and the product gets stale with few development resources to dedicate to fixing bugs or building new features. Slowly, the company starts losing users. This trend accelerates as foreign run competing products start taking share. Tens of thousands of new American jobs are not created. The sharing economy built on top of tech company's B product dies out.
As tech company B announces they are selling their IP to a foreign company that is able to source talent more easily, the house and senate break out in applause.
"We did it guys!", they cheered as they patted each other on the back.
"We saved American jobs!"
Christmas 1968, from the far side of the Moon with Earth entirely hidden from view, the Apollo 8 spacecraft ignited its SPS engine to return to Earth.
James Lovell radioed back to mission control: "Please be informed there is a Santa Claus," as they began their way home. This was humanity's first voyage to the moon, much farther than we had ever explored before.
The Apollo 8 crew also witnessed the very first Earthrise, as seen here, digitally remastered from the B&W original.
From the NASA transcript:
Anders: Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! There's the Earth coming up. Wow, that's pretty.
Borman: Hey, don't take that, it's not scheduled. (joking)
Anders: (laughs) You got a color film, Jim? Hand me that roll of color quick, would you...
Lovell: Oh man, that's great!
The photographer, astronaut Bill Anders reflected: "The Earth we saw rising over the battered grey lunar surface was small and delicate, a magnificent spot of color in the vast blackness of space. Once-distant places appeared inseparably close. Borders that once rendered division vanished. All of humanity appeared joined together on this glorious-but-fragile sphere. We set out to explore the moon and instead discovered the Earth."
They adopted 2 kids, used them to produce child p**n, pimped them out to a p*do ring, r*ped them, and abused them.
They just got 100 years in prison.
Not harsh enough.
Starlink is one of the seminal feats of engineering in history.
It will enable internet that's
— fast 100-300mbps
— uncensored
— cheap $1500/yr
in:
— the most remote areas
— ships in the ocean
— airplanes in the sky
— poles
But few even know what this picture is..

Why @NYCMayor can’t we have cameras in every subway car and at every subway station so we know where to send the police and first responders and so we can deter and catch the predators?
We don’t need anymore NYC city subway tragedies.
When two illegal immigrant mothers were interviewed outside their NYC hotel, they said their sheets were laundered daily, they had three meals a day for them and their babies, and many other free items. They were very happy.
Are New York taxpayers happy about this?

🚨#BREAKING: A 7-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being injured by falling drones during a Christmas holiday show that went terribly wrong. 📌#Orlando | #Florida A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition in the ICU after being struck by a drone during a Saturday night aerial holiday show at Lake Eola in Orlando. The incident happened around 6:45 p.m. as approximately 25,000 attendees enjoyed the family-friendly event, according to officials. Bystander video captured over 200 drones forming a red and green holiday display when several malfunctioned, colliding midair and falling to the ground and into the lake. FSD v13.2.2 handled 11 ride share trips, and I barely needed to be in the car — it was that good. The only time I intervened was when I had to pull over to wait for another ride request. It literally did everything for me.
I even made a mistake once, thinking it was in the wrong lane, signaling a turn. FSD followed my command, but it turned out it was actually in the correct lane, so that was human error on my part.I never disengaged and it corrected my mistake.😳
This to me was material information about how close we are to this being solved, and the fleet awakening.
Just spent 20 minutes with v13.2.2 and I’m still trying to comprehend with what I just experienced.
I took it to the tightest street I knew. Never in a million years did I think an autonomous car could get itself out of this situation.
But it did 🤯
Tesla ai team solved it.
