Nairobi City County has issued a seven-day notice asking members of the public to identify and collect 473 unclaimed bodies currently lying at the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly Nairobi City Mortuary.

The county says bodies that remain unclaimed after the notice period may be disposed of in accordance with the law.

A family in Makueni is demanding justice after Gedion Makau died while being held at Kilungu Police Station following his arrest at his business premises in Nunguni Shopping Centre over claims that he had a machete.
Police told the family that Makau had used his trousers in connection with his death while inside the cell, but relatives have rejected the explanation. His mother, Teressia Mbandi, said she did not see signs on his neck that supported the police account.
The family says it only learnt of his death after a friend saw his body being taken to a mortuary. Makau’s body is at Kilungu Sub County Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
