@mickyj1878 5 miles for water? Still a shorter journey than Everton’s trip back to the “top”.
Bold talk from someone supporting a team whose achievements would be surviving another relegation battle. Mate
@mickyj1878 How does it feel being a founding member of the football league and the premier league but today you aren’t even the biggest club in your street
@mickyj1878 How does it feel being a Everton supporter knowing that you’ve never won a premier league trophy let alone the champions league and most likely you’ll never even get to win neither of them. Also your biggest rivals don’t even consider you as an opponent. But you know football ryt
My quick take on the initiative that @daddyhope is championing:
Our political culture is needlessly partisan, and the disadvantage of that is that issues that are in the National Interest may easily fall victim to partisan defensiveness even before they are heard on their own merits.
I listened to the space below and got to understand the nature of Hopewell’s proposal. While the title “Government in Exile” may have got some people’s knickers in a twist, the proposed initiative is actually aimed at functioning more like a platform to push the democratic reforms agenda in Zimbabwe by engaging in lobbying, campaigning and advocacy activities internationally!
It’ll do this by leveraging the expertise, access and networks of Zimbabwean citizens, and engaging critical sites of power and influence in our Southern African region as well as globally. It would deploy a comprehensive political communication campaign to raise crucial awareness among key audiences and vividly illustrate the depth of the contradictions that exist under the Mnangagwa regime in Zimbabwe, including how this stands to be exacerbated by the proposed rape of the nation’s constitution to extend Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond its constitutional limits.
I do not see why any opposition political parties and their leaders should feel threatened or start, as some supporters of certain politicians are already doing, to roll out conspiratorial yarns about how this is a calculated assault against themselves.
Since the 2017 military coup, there’s not been a comprehensive and sustained international diplomatic or media campaign to engage key international audiences, including state actors, global governance institutions, and global media, to fully explain both enduring and new contradictions in the post-Mugabe, post-military coup dispensation.
In contrast, the regime was allowed to run with its “Zimbabwe is open for business” international re-engagement campaign completely without challenge. No counter-narrative was advanced to bring our external environment up to speed with the realities obtaining in Zimbabwe, including new, ramped up threats to our aspirations for democracy.
This is the space that I see the initiative proposed by @daddyhope operating in. Clearly, it is not stepping into territory that is presently occupied by any force, be it civil society or party political. Rather, it seeks to be an international scaffold for the domestic activities of opposition political parties and civic society groups.
It is very narrow-minded, and selfishly partisan, for anyone to attack this initiative by making reference to existing opposition political parties and their leaders, as though their space is being threatened by it.
If Zimbabwean citizens can harness their expertise, access, networks and resources to campaign internationally and lobby key interlocutors to bring their influence to bear on our struggle for democratic reforms in order to bring about a truly democratic dispensation in Zimbabwe and reverse decades of political repression and economic meltdown, in what way does that hurt our National interest?
If it does not hurt, but instead promotes our National Interest, then why are some people trying to project it as an attempt to upstage opposition parties and their leaders? On the contrary, this initiative benefits the work of all who are pushing against the repressive, militarised regime in Harare.
The Biti & Ncube Debate - Key Questions
I propose that there be no insults. I accept that I could be wrong in my views. I have got genuine questions for @Welshman_Ncube & @Tbiti_campaign.
Let's forget about your dispute with @nelsonchamisa for a second & focus on issues:
a. As genuine opposition leaders, the biggest issues between August - December 2023 were the sham elections & Tshabangu's decision of CCC.
b. We are dealing with a Professor of Law here and a Former Finance Minister in Cabinet in addition to being one of the finest Lawyers of his generation.
c. The dispute with @nelsonchamisa is noted & acknowledged. The grievances based on his alleged dictatorial nature are also taken into account.
d. Is it being argued that it is credible for you to assert that @nelsonchamisa's alleged dictatorial tendencies precluded you from seeking audience with the court to assert your own rights over CCC?
e. If the party Constitution you had was separate from Tshabangu's & @nelsonchamisa's, surely as Senior Lawyers you could have taken urgent steps to enjoin the proceedings to interdict Tshabangu in the interests of the party and to preserve the sacred Constitutional rights of CCC members.
f. If there is a genuine party Constitution in existence that you have, it follows that Tshabangu is an shameless impostor & fraudster & you have known this from the very beginning.
g. This is the problem we have. Tshabangu repeatedly referred to the same Constitution & structures that you are seeking to place reliance on.
h. He also repeatedly proposed to foist joint party leadership on you. He has also repeatedly stated that he was consulting with you. Why would he do this without consulting you? Why would you not challenge him robustly & consistently?
i. Your responses to all this has been to merely state that you both do not have anything to do this him and end there. Is that a credible response given the stakes?
j. Does that not come across as too feeble, convenient & implausible for leaders of your stature in light of the gravity of the situation?
k. As senior opposition leaders and Lawyers, are you not able to draw a distinction between @nelsonchamisa's personal interests and national & opposition / party interests?
l. If it is credible that you have always genuinely believed that you were the party's respective VPs, then where is the evidential trail showing your commitment to vindicating those rights to the detriment of Tshabangu & ED?
m. If you possess a genuine & unadulterated commitment to the cause of democracy, freedom & good governance, then show us, as a credible alternative to @nelsonchamisa, the steps that you took to challenge ED & the sham election be it rallies, court processes, diplomatic initiatives, etc.
n. You see, the challenge that you face is, you are all returning now after Tshabangu & ED have already ravished CCC, the party that you claim to be the respective VPs of.
p. You are still showing no urgency to reclaim the party legally from Tshabangu. You appear to be strangely at ease with the situation. In your respective interviews so far, you have appeared to show more bite, angst and aggression when criticising @nelsonchamisa than you have displayed when challenging Tshabangu who should surely be a more existential threat than Chamisa!
q. When was the last time that you both spoke about the stolen election or publicly criticised the current regime about pressing issues of the day?
Conclusion
Looking at the evidential trail cumulatively, from an objective standpoint, the absence of positive action that was taken to vindicate your rights as opposition leaders, preserve the opposition party, challenge Tshabangu & ED and the sham election - it would appear that you are more motivated to prove that @nelsonchamisa is dictator & to reclaim your lost party positions than to vigorously challenge the current regime & its acolytes.
The idea that you needed @nelsonchamisa's approval to assert your rights as senior opposition leaders in light of a sham election & Tshabangu's regime enabled antics is simply implausible. Only the gullible will swallow that narrative.
You see, Joshua Nkomo had a life & death tussle with Robert Mugabe and fought the liberation struggle in the opposite corner to him but his opposition to Smith's racist settler regime was never in doubt. That's the key takeaway.
You see, what will define how the people treat you is not how well you will articulate allegations of @nelsonchamisa's alleged dictatorship and abandonment of collective responsibility, it is your own record of challenging the regime effectively and holding it to account on key national issues!
That process cannot be fudged. The people can see through these things. They can see the venom with which you attack @nelsonchamisa & the kids' gloves, circumspection & deference with which the shameless impostor is treated. They can pick up on those subtleties.
They know that it is possible for genuine opposition leaders to break away from @nelsonchamisa based on legitimate concerns & still be authentic opposition leaders. They can tell the difference too!
