“30 is so old.” you’ve only been here for three decades. in two of them, you couldn’t drink, rent a car, or even be fully responsible for yourself. please wake up. you are a FRESH flower in the garden of life
Im sure many of you know this but this video going around is of bear 399, the most famous, beloved, iconic bear in America aka our “Queen of the Tetons.” In 2020 she caused a ton of excitement during Covid emerging from her den with quadruplets.
She’s one of the longest lived bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem living to 28 and is known to have borne 18 cubs in her life. She was habituated to humans and was known to raise her cubs near people to keep males away who attack and kill cubs. Someone hit her and killed her in Snake River Canyon last year with their car and she’s still very much missed and commemorated with art exhibits, pictures in newspapers in gateways around the park, and documentaries.
We teach students not to name individuals, assign them numbers instead, and focus on populations, but 399 was a very special and well loved.
We have a framed pic of her in our cabin and in our student office. One of the quadruplets was also killed by a speeding vehicle in the park. I’ve seen 399 in the park maybe 5 times since I was in grade school, she had just been around forever. The PBS documentary on her was great.
Don't let the awesome stories of Indiana and Texas Tech and the controversy of Alabama, Notre Dame and Miami distract from Oklahoma having one of the best turnarounds in college football this season.
As a liver doctor who has treated patients with hepatitis B for decades, this change to the vaccine schedule is a mistake. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. The birth dose is a recommendation, NOT a mandate.
Before the birth dose was recommended, 20,000 newborns a year were infected with hepatitis B. Now, it’s fewer than 20. Ending the recommendation for newborns makes it more likely the number of cases will begin to increase again. This makes America sicker.
Acting CDC Director O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead retain the current, evidence-based approach.
Saying this again
Line between chronic disease & infectious disease is artificial
HPV causes cervical cancer
Increasingly looks like EBV may cause Multiple Sclerosis or even Lupus
We need to refocus on new vaccines to prevent or even treat many chronic diseases
