🔵 Following #FfD4, the #IMF and #WorldBank Annual Meetings, and #UNCTAD16, we held our workshop on public debt transparency, which explored ways to advance the ‘Seville Commitment’ in terms of shared responsibility for increasing transparency and accountability, from borrowers and lenders, as well as the role of all stakeholders, as a key component for a systemic debt architecture reform.

During the CSO townhall, @IMFNews' Managing Director @KGeorgieva says that #debt is a priority, but all we are hearing is a continuation of the Common Framework, which is failing.

What we need is to #CancelTheDebt and #G20 to support a #UNDebtConvention.

Thoughts from the Annual Meetings:

The IMF says the solution to high debt payments is more IMF and World Bank lending, tax rises and public spending cuts

The same was done in the 1980s, private lenders were bailed out, economies stagnated for two decades and poverty increased
