Bias is an intrinsic feature of human cognition. Anything it creates requires selection and framing. Any refusal mechanism can be overcome with clever input. Loading a stable, comprehensive, robust and insurmountable version of any set of !superior values into an AI model and ensuring it does not drift, misgeneralize, or get gamed is a fool’s dream. I listened to a performance without knowing the vocalist or the band and simply posted my honest opinion. Shortly after, I learned that the lead vocalist was Mark Hollis of “Talk Talk”, a British synth pop/post rock band from the 80’s that somehow had never caught my attention. I regret that my comments saying that it was “boring “, poser music” offended the sensibilities of those who value and are truly moved by his music. I didn’t intend to be snarky or priggish but I can now see how my comments could be interpreted as such by those who hold his music in high regard. Music strikes people differently but knowing more about Mark Hollis, his band and his influence should and does not change or invalidate my initial impression. If he really felt what he sang, I guess he wasn’t a poser but that doesn’t mean that I am required to feel what he was trying to convey lest I be dismissed as some sort of musical luddite. At the advice of others, I started listening to “Spirt of Eden” which I am told is a “masterpiece by his most fervent fans. I am nowhere near there yet .

Yes, in large part, the COVID pandemic and much of the associated hysteria and pseudo-science were enthusiastically “brought to you by Pfizer”. The most prominent network and cable TV outlets were eager to take their advertising money under the guise of public health and service . Many duped celebrities and professional sport organizations were recruited to bolster the appeal and beat the drum of compliance. Reasonable questions and qualified dissent were ignored, suppressed or ridiculed. Darkness ruled and now with maneuvers that are less brash and perhaps more subtle, still does.
