Know your program and evaluate your needs accurately.

If you have a strong & healthy culture, you can take a chance on a questionable kid once in a while.

If you have a bunch of kids that can be influenced negatively then you don’t want to bring more of that into your program.

@Don_K_Williams @ericdbriggs I am a HS, club & ODP coach. I was once presenting a college recruiting workshop for about 50 parents. 1 told me that HS isn’t worth it because no college coaches recruit there. The prior month I had 5 colleges (2 D1, 1 D2 & 2 D3) at my HS games to scout. There was no response.

MAYBE AN UNPOPULAR OPINION

I get asked a lot what I think of High School ⚽️

Paid club coaches/directors/club owners who need a monthly income (wholly understandable BTW, but there are other ways to do that) tell kids that HS ⚽️ will ruin them, too many games in a congested schedule & poor coaching

Meanwhile I see some of those same club coaches having those same kids fly across nation to play 5 games in 3 days in a tournament while they berate, scream nonsense instructions & humiliate them publicly (not all, yes there are some EXCELLENT youth coaches) & the families pay thousands for the privilege.

Yeah…much better 🤦🏻‍♂️

HS ball can offer a lot for players including a community & leadership learning opportunities that club cannot offer

Nothing wrong with playing both, just be sure players get some short breaks to recover throughout the year please
