🇨🇿🇷🇺 CZECHIA IS PLANNING FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A LONG WAR WITH RUSSIA

Prague is increasingly treating deterrence as a national endurance project, not just a question of buying new weapons.

Under a draft defence strategy running to 2045, Russia is identified as the Czech Republic’s principal security threat and the armed forces are to be prepared for sustained high-intensity warfare.

The plan includes 24 F-35 fighters, modernization of two brigades, stronger space-based intelligence capabilities and, by 2030, a new system for preparing civilians for major crises.

Peacetime military service would remain voluntary, but the state would expand its ability to mobilize citizens with critical medical, technical and IT skills if required.

The logic is broader than force structure. A prolonged war demands ammunition, industrial output, trained reserves, resilient infrastructure and a population capable of functioning under sustained disruption.

That is the lesson Europe is still absorbing from Ukraine.

Czechia is moving in the right direction: preparing not only to fight, but to endure. Europe will need the same mindset if NATO wants to deter Russia before another crisis exposes the gaps.
