@AcademicJon So academic writing certainly has its place. I wouldn't discount it. But we can open up space within our publications, research papers and more to allow voices who don't use academic form. This could even involve using narrative, fantasy or other genre to communicate.
Last weekend I attend @oxfordconted short course in magical realism (MR). Reflecting on the day I wrote how MR reflects the lived experiences of the subaltern and their desire to attain rights. A magical and fantastical desire in itself. (thread)

Academic form and structure are colonising. We know how our words as researchers shape the beings of the subjects of our research. Can we break our forms of writing to stop colonising and allow space for otherised modes to narrate the lives we seek to understand?
Academic writing gatekeeps entrance into the academy and defines who is seen as a valid and legitimate knower whilst silencing other epistemologies which aren't expressed in the same language.
I've been teaching academic skills on and off for the past 12 years. Universities are continually sidelining writing (whole other issue). More than that we're missing out on the opportunity to decolonise academic writing practices...
Here are my thoughts. https://t.co/R5crfh1PpV
You can't effectively exploit a people if you don't dominate them first, which means violently stripping them of their autonomy to exist otherwise. This is important to consider when thinking about why coloniality is constitutive of capitalism, rather than derivative.
@OxfordJournals thank you for publishing our response and allowing us to explore the issues of epistemic injustice in ethical practices of human rights based research

We hope our article promotes discussion on the practice of decolonising our minds to enhance ethical practices in human rights research in the Global South @sjndlovugatshen @RecaldeVela @decolonize_this@nairita_rc @benjamingrama
@academic_exit Unfortunately I'm yet to be anywhere where I've felt valued and recognised. Nor where when I spoke about trauma fully supported from the institution.
@AmazonHelp why are there no English subs on Amazon Prime NL for Everything Everywhere All At Once? Even in the English audio version half the film is in Chinese which only is translated to Dutch subtitles! Makes it impossible to watch for English speakers 😕
@jessiegender Not exactly in topic. But I just felt like I lost my faith with humanity today. And then I watched one of your videos. You argue your perspective eloquently with so much grace and compassion for complete and utter twatbags who don't deserve it. Thank you for giving me hope again
