THE CURIOUS CASE OF FLORIAN WIRTZ
Wirtz has had a rough start to his Liverpool career. But if you watch him play and think he's bad, then you're missing the point.
He hasn't hit top form yet, sure. But has he been provided the environment to thrive?
A deep dive into it 🧵
Wrote a piece about Bahoya stating how he would always carry towards the box despite having less raw talent to dribble past defenders than Diomandé.
96th percentile for carry directness across the five big leagues.

It's hard to understand how/why a majority of the Arsenal fans still wholeheartedly believe Gyokeres will be our first choice CF going into the next season, despite Arteta making it very clear what his intentions are last season.
What makes an elite #10?
- elite ballstriking
- elite PnP to carry in space & traffic
- ability to play between the lines
- vision & ability to execute valuable passes
Julian Alvarez checks it all. Has an elite engine too.
Not a CF, but he is one of the best 10s available rn.
Julian Alvarez would be a number 10 for Arsenal if we do end up signing him. Not a CF, which is the consensus on this platform.
Julian as a 10 vs Julian as a CF are two different stories.
It's high time we move on from øur captain as well.
Arsenal already missed out on
- Huijsen/Diomande/Jacquet for 50-60 million (Saliba cover)
- Joan Garcia
- Semenyo & Gordon for reasonable prices
- Sesko
- chance to sign Bouaddi for <60m
We keep missing out on good opportunities. Jean Matteo Bahoya is one such opportunity.
We already have our inside forward in Tzolis & wingfielder in Eze.
Bahoya is an elite athlete. A wide creator + pacey outlet rolled into one.
Top OOP workrate. Might take some time to adjust but will scale to the PL for sure.
Not the finished product but worth taking the risk.
Arsenal can do a lot worse than signing Jean Matteo Bahoya this summer for ~60 million.
Barcola - not worth 110+ million,
Diomande - feasibility???
Nico Williams - will mess up our wage structure + injuries,
Leao - OOP issues,
Semenyo/Gordon - missed out,
Godts - won't scale rn.

@saundzo I guess it's the Ederson signing that's capping the ceiling. You do need a progressive passer in the midfield. Santos is that.
Swap Ederson with Mamadou Sangare (or even a Sander Berge), it makes a massive difference in determining the ceiling.
@RobyPoto I guess it's that lack of movement that has been grossly miscommunicated by the masses as simply need "runners".
Lacked movement relatively than they normally offer. Credits to Cabo Verde for limiting the space as well.
Your friends in healthy, happy relationships aren’t telling you what it takes to get there because you’d call it cringe and judge them for being gooey …. so i’ll tell you: you need to be approx 10x more willing to melt into silliness and giggles than you think at all times, and
@aruneyescream@jamunah_velu It used to be, but it has changed. Bournemouth went from one of the worst to one of the best in terms of player availability.
There are many things that happened off the pitch too in helping this, which Liverpool already have in place I believe.
CSK's Prashant Veer seems to have a certain weakness against bouncers.
(This is not to spread hatred by any means. I personally like his signing. It's just about identifying flaws in this technique. Also pardon me for the picture quality)
A mini analysis thread 👇🏽
Personally, I fully back his buy. His true value proposition will materialize once he starts to bowl consistenly. He still is a reliable batsman but he should address this issue to avoid it becoming a weakness that can be exploited regularly. It will be, if not worked upon.
