Lived experience is so under-rated
I understand that knowledge can be acquired through scholarship & novel data can be generated through research
But nothing can replace the insights gained through lived experience
Experts by experience should be given the respect they deserve
This is excellent. The integration and holistic approach of addressing mental and physical health is something I’ve been advocating for since I got to Canada and experienced my own challenges. A great step for our city!
The Ministry will have big shoes to fill. Julie has empowered so many patients and caregivers to find their voice in advocating for patient partnership. I’m honored to have worked with her and the rest of the MPFAC council members.

It's the end of a significant role for both myself & the province of Ontario. My mandate as Chair of the Minister's Patient and Family Advisory Council ends August 31st. I will not be returning, but am hopeful the Minister's PFAC will continue @ONThealth@celliottability
Canada is built on multiculturalism and prides itself on its diversity, “politeness”, and inclusion. This message contradicts that. Unless you are Indigenous to this land, you are in Canada by way of immigration.
So, give it a rest.
Good morning! First up today, we’re discussing the removal of billboards telling Canadians to “Say NO to Mass Immigration,” after complaints they were promoting anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric. (Image: Carolyn Ray/CBC)
@TheCurrentCBC Well, I don’t know about others, but I paid nearly $10,000 in immigration fees and dissolved all my savings in order to live in this country, and I get no financial assistance from the Canadian gov’t whatsoever, so who’s making money off of whom here?
There is too much power being given to bureaucracy in health care services, where the need for genuine compassion is essential. These structures and formalities address the numbers and figures but lose sight of the patient voice in the form of barriers and red tape.
The most powerful lesson I ever heard on Trauma came from @IyanlaVanzant ” Until you heal the wounds of your past, you will continue to bleed.”That’s what we’re witnessing even when we don’t recognize it. Folks bleeding out thru, drugs, alcohol, rage, et all! #QueenSugarTalks

“Power and health are inseparably linked. You can’t be an empowered patient and get the health outcomes you want with inaccurate information and half-truths.” Dr.Jennifer Gunter
Would be interested to see the correlation btwn patients in the limbo of pre-diagnosis & the rate of diagnosed medical induced PTSD & depression. Undiagnosed probably even higher.
Tests, uncertainty.
Just another scenario of how physical and mental health are interconnected.

(2/2) A patient is then arbitrarily placed with another therapist and has to re-tell their story again, now with a distrust of the system and fear that their therapist will terminate once again. Suicide rates go up. There has to be a better solution to this.
