I couldn’t agree more & have been pushing for improved state & local policies as well as more public awareness about the serious risks of smartphones in schools since 2017.
While we have made some strides, unfortunately current state laws & local policies don’t go far enough. Many still allow students to use their smartphones for “educational purposes”, making restricted phone policies on campus very difficult for teachers to enforce.
Smartphones + social media access have been proven to increase bullying & harassment, be addictive, have devastating mental health implications, and be an impediment to the learning environment.
Given the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars being funneled to schools for mental health services & bullying programs, it seems counterproductive to continue to allow smartphones on campus during the school day.
And yes- parents play a pivotal role.

This states it exactly so, Norm. I can't really imagine a world without Bob in it. He was the truest of mentors and friends, and an unparalleled, selfless public servant. My heart, like thousands of others, is shattered tonight. May his memory be a blessing, as his life was.
Please read the thread by @AudreyTruschke, and this one by me. The verdict that convicted Mahmood Farooqui of rape was a landmark one like the #PriyaRamani one of yesterday. The Feeble No verdict that overturned it is an affront to our legal system.
