1 month after 75-million-year-old dinosaur fossils were discovered in a Utah National monument, Trump declared the fossils were "not unique," stripped the land's protections, and reduced the size of the protected land by 90%.
i am crying bc why do the rich people forget this world is a real place? it’s infuriating how detached they are. its so sad that real animals are dying/going extinct/being displaced/losing their homes. they are ruining this real life planet for profit, for personal gain :(
Unpopular opinion, museums should not have to close bc lack of funding. My taxes should be going to them and not some foreign country to bomb civilians
I could be at the deepest and darkest point of my life yet simply seeing outside like this will instantly put me in a good mood. I wish it happened more often
I need a TV series that’s very addictive. Like “one more episode” until you realize it’s 4AM and you’ve somehow finished the entire first season. Recommendations?
This weekend, I passed a dead turkey vulture on the shoulder, a few feet from a deer it had come to clean up. It looks like someone hit it on the takeoff. That's how it usually happens. Here's why:
A turkey vulture has a six-foot wingspan and weighs three to five pounds. That's a lot of wing to get moving. It can't jump straight up like a sparrow. It needs a running start, several heavy wingbeats, and a bit of room. On a road with a curve or a rise, a car appears with less time than the bird needs.
And it's usually heavier than normal. A vulture that's been feeding is carrying a full crop, which is exactly the wrong condition for a fast vertical takeoff.
And the problem compounds. A vulture killed on the road becomes roadkill, which draws more vultures to the same spot, which puts more of them in the same lane.
When you come around a bend and there are vultures on a carcass, lift off the gas early and give them a few seconds. They will clear. They just need more of a runway than you'd expect, and the difference between hitting one and not is usually two or three seconds of braking.
And if you're on a quiet road, it's safe to stop, and the animal is small enough to move, drag the carcass onto the shoulder or into the ditch. It takes ten seconds. The vultures still get the meal, and they get it somewhere a car isn't going. A stick or a boot works fine if you'd rather not touch it.
Indonesia is destroying 2,000,000 hectares of one of the world’s most important & biodiverse rainforests in South Papua for sugarcane. 😡
The world’s BIGGEST deforestation project. 🤬
Everyone should be SO angry about this. It is OUR planet and we are losing wildlife forever!
