Happy International Day of Peace from us to you ✌️
We are not in the business of chocolate, we are in the business of peace. So, today, we want to talk about our partnership with The Dallaire Institute. The Dallaire Institute was inspired by lived experience of General Roméo Dallaire, who de-escalated a very dangerous situation with a child soldier using chocolate. After realizing how powerful that piece of chocolate had been, he decided to be involved in protecting children from the recruitment and use in armed violence, using everybody’s favourite medium: chocolate!
Now, every time you purchase a Dallaire Bar from us, $1 will be donated to support this powerful cause.

With our 20 medals as of today, Canada has passed the medal count of the 1968 and 1972 Paralympics. In both of those Paralympics we won 19 medals.
We should pass the 21 medals we won at Tokyo 2020 tomorrow.

It is Indigenous History Month and this is the story of Chief Crowfoot!
Crowfoot (Isapo-Muxika) was born around 1830 in what is now southern-Alberta. He was first given the name Shot-Close, and then later given the name Bear Ghost.
When his father was killed, Crowfoot took his name Packs a Knife. After his father's death, Crowfoot's mother joined the Siksika Tribe.
As a young man, he fought in at least 19 battles and was respected for his skills as a warrior and leader.
While he was a skilled warrior known for his bravery, he preferred the path of peace and reason when possible.
In 1877, he was involved in the negotiations over Treaty 7. He did not want to give up land to settlers just to watch them kill the bison, but he also knew that settlers were coming regardless. He pushed to get the most favourable terms he could for his people.
Despite his efforts, the government failed to live up to the terms and barely provided enough rations for the Blackfoot to survive on.
In 1885, he did not participate in the North-West Resistance, knowing any victories would be only temporary for his people and hurt them in the long run.
You can learn more about his life in my episode about him, or read the transcript here: https://t.co/joqwqdHm9E
After the North-West Resistance, he asked for a pardon for his adopted son Poundmaker, but this was refused. Many politicians believed Crowfoot's refusal to join the Northwest Resistance was loyalty to the Crown.
In reality, Crowfoot knew the fight would not help his people.
Chief Crowfoot died on April 25, 1890. Over 800 people attended his funeral, including government dignitaries. In 2014, artifacts from his life were returned to his people from the Royal Albert Museum. He is currently a finalist to be on the five dollar bill.
