#BonnieTyler has died at 75 years old. The Welsh singer was behind iconic ’80s hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero.”

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” reads a statement shared on Tyler’s official website and Facebook page on Thursday. “We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”

In May, Tyler was hospitalized in Faro, Portugal — where she had a residence — for emergency intestinal surgery and was eventually put in a medically-induced coma. She was set to embark on a tour this summer before being hospitalized. Tyler woke up from her month-long coma in June, but remained “very unwell and in intensive care,” according to her Facebook page.

A cantora galesa Bonnie Tyler faleceu nesta quarta-feira, 8 de julho de 2026, aos 75 anos. A artista estava internada desde o final de abril no Hospital de Faro, em Portugal, onde residia.

O óbito foi confirmado pela família através das redes sociais. Tyler havia sido submetida a uma cirurgia de emergência para tratar uma perfuração intestinal em maio, permanecendo em coma induzido e estado grave até o seu falecimento.

Nascida Gaynor Hopkins em 8 de junho de 1951, no País de Gales, Bonnie Tyler tornou-se um ícone global do rock e pop, reconhecida por sua voz rouca e potente, característica acentuada após uma cirurgia nas cordas vocais em 1977. Ela foi a primeira cantora galesa a conquistar o primeiro lugar nas paradas dos Estados Unidos e do Reino Unido simultaneamente.
