Take a point. It was always going to be a rough ride but that midfield balance needs urgent work, as does RB. Frustratingly we have known this the whole summer, and we've ignored it.

@RoryGreenfield He's not even bad defensively either. But the main thing he'd bring at least some control to our midfield on the ball. Both Grav/Szob want to follow the ball forward, Wharton finds the space between the lines and holds his position more

This particular point is key in the context of Slot last season imo. Slot, not entirely unfairly due to personnel issues, strayed too far from what his core approach and that made us worse (eg PSG away)

But interestingly this - he would prefer to err too much on the side of his favoured approach than to swing too far the other way because that is easier to fix.

Not to mention we need a RB desperately, and now have no Scouser in the squad. I'd take him back tbh.

Would the defending be average? Probably. But his ability to break lines is elite and we lack that quality from deep. Would be suited to an Iraola side imo

It's sad how it ended. I don't think Mourinho is a good fit for him either. It's ironic that in Iraola we now have a coach that encourages fast vertical play, that Trent would probably be a good fit for us right now.

I just want to see good attacking of football again and I think the manager will bring that, but was always gonna need patience
