AP Lit Students knocked the investigation boards out of the park! They were tasked with arguing whether Shlock from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice is a victim or villain.
What if our rubrics were wheels instead of linear progressions that give the impression of learning coming to an end? A colleague brought me this idea and I can’t stop thinking about it.
Might I suggest bringing back old school skits if you haven’t in awhile? No rigid guidelines. Keep it simple and let them have fun and get creative. My seniors and I laughed so hard today. It was good for our souls.
I would focus less on how many novels or assessments we have in a semester and focus more on mastery of skills.
I would focus more on social and emotional learning.
I would try my best to guide students to appreciate the learning process instead of points.
