“Uganda is officially #Ebola free” the Minister for Health, @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 has announced.

This confirmation comes after the country discharged the last Ugandan national on 16th June 2026.

Unlike previous Ebola outbreaks that informed the current 42-day declaration policy, Uganda’s 2026 Ebola outbreak arose from a fully documented importation event.

The source of infection was identified, the route of introduction established, all confirmed cases were epidemiologically linked, transmission chains were completely characterised and reconstructed, and all identified contacts were institutionally quarantined and completed the mandatory 21-day follow-up without evidence of further transmission.

Enhanced surveillance has detected no unexplained community transmission.

This morning, I joined the people of West Nile and the entire nation to mourn Gen. Moses Ali , and laid a wreath on his coffin at Parliament. He made an important contribution to Uganda’s history. He rejected the brutality of Idi Amin’s regime, worked with us in the struggle for freedom, promoted peace and remained committed to the development of West Nile.

Gen. Ali understood that peace and development go together. I therefore appeal to the leaders in West Nile and the whole country that they should continue working hard to raise household incomes and achieve prosperity. I thank him for his service to Uganda and pray that his soul rests in eternal peace.

It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of our brother Gen. Moses Ali. He died today at Nakasero Hospital, at 1600 hours. Gen Moses Ali has provided service to his country for a long time, as a soldier and a political leader.

In the West Nile region, he provided the good example of being a big modern farmer. We shall miss greatly his contribution. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.

I received the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) @PoliceUg , AIGP Tom Magambo, at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi on Saturday afternoon.

He urged Ugandans returning from South Africa to use the knowledge, skills, and experience they acquired abroad to contribute to the country’s development instead of dwelling on past challenges. Magambo said the returnees’ international exposure places them in a unique position to drive innovation, improve productivity, and support Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Yesterday at State House Entebbe, I delivered a Lecture of Opportunity to student officers from the War College of Mali. I emphasised that Africa’s prosperity lies in production, value addition and expanding our markets through economic integration.
I also stressed that the continent must build the capacity to defend its interests on land, in the air, at sea and in space, while remaining committed to Pan-Africanism, patriotism and African solutions to African problems.

*Who is Rev. Fr. Gubazire Bosco Bonaventure, M.Afr., the New Bishop of #Kabale Diocese?*

Rev. Fr. Gubazire Bosco Bonaventure, M.Afr., is a Ugandan Catholic priest from Kabale Diocese and a member of the Society of Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers). Ordained to the priesthood on 10 August 2003, he has dedicated over two decades to missionary work, priestly formation, and academic scholarship.

He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and currently serves as a lecturer and formator at Spiritan University College, Ejisu, Ghana, where he teaches philosophy and the social sciences while mentoring seminarians.

Uganda Formally Admitted to Invictus Games Community as 26th Nation

London, 7 July 2026

Uganda has officially been admitted into the Invictus Games community, becoming the 26th participating nation and the first East African country to join the global movement that uses sport to rehabilitate wounded and injured service personnel.

The announcement was made on July 7, 2026, during the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation at Chatham House in London. The event, titled "From Policy to Practice," brought together experts, policymakers, and members of the Invictus community as part of the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

The Invictus Games Foundation Patron, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, welcomed Uganda's admission, saying that he was incredibly pleased to welcome another nation into the Invictus Community.

"Growth has never been about numbers. It's about reaching those who need us most. Building partnerships that last. And ensuring that no one feels they're making this journey alone,” Prince Harry said.

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, expressed gratitude to the Invictus Games Foundation and its Patron, Prince Harry, for welcoming Uganda into the community.

“This milestone reflects our shared commitment to wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have sacrificed greatly in service to our nation," said Hon. Kiwanuka.

Hon. Kiwanuka highlighted that the partnership affirms Uganda's belief that "those who have borne the burdens of service deserve every opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and hope".

"They are our living heroes," he added.

The minister credited President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his visionary leadership and the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for championing Uganda's entry into the Invictus community during the Invictus Games Foundation leadership visit to Kampala on October 10, 2025.

"Uganda's admission as the first East African nation to formally engage with the Foundation is both an honour and a responsibility," the minister said.

"We look forward to learning from other member nations while contributing our own experience to the global Invictus movement.”

Hon. Kiwanuka confirmed that Uganda will compete at the Birmingham Games in 2027.

The partnership follows a formal agreement signed between the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces and the Invictus Games Foundation in October 2025 to enhance rehabilitation services for wounded soldiers. The Foundation had previously conducted a visit to Uganda to assess existing sport recovery facilities and meet with wounded service personnel and their families.

The Invictus Games Foundation has previously visited veterans at the Mubende Defence Forces Rehabilitation and Vocational Centre and provided them with sports equipment.
