Writing question: I have a female character who likes motorcycles. She's 29, grew up in the US.
What are some movie/TV/etc. characters that might have been formative "girls can ride motorcycles? Cool, I wanna do that when I grow up!" influences? #motorcycle#ActionGirls
.@Iconfactory has 16.1k followers on Twitter and about 4.1k on Mastodon. Their last tweet received a mere 9 likes/3 retweets, and an amazing 287 favorites/163 boosts on Mastodon.
Even "followers" donβt SEE what youβre saying here anymore. Why stay?

Tired: I'm not joining #Mastodon because I'm scared of picking the wrong instance.
Wired: It doesn't matter; I can move instances later, and *nobody will even notice* if I don't tell them!

Make the switch. It's really nice over there!
In case you were following Taylor Lorenz, the WaPo tech reporter who was suspended *on Saturday* (i.e., *after* Musk "reinstated" at least some, but by no means all, of the previous round of censored journalists), she's on That Other Site: @taylorlorenz@(not-elephant).social.
[A major] social media network... has been captured by a partisan actor who is weaponizing internal company (possibly and possibly user) information for partisan/ideological purposes, with uncertain consequences for the next American elections. https://t.co/W5AffFZeGg
Elon's given behind-the-scenes data access to anti-LGBTQ bigots and promised them protection.
Twitter is not safe for LGBTQ people to be on at all and this problem won't be rectified - it can only get worse because it is the desire of the new owner.

Twitter's Trust and Safety Council is losing members after Elon fired its head and has stonewalled the council.
Do not trust Twitter; you are not safe here. (Unless you're a right-winger. Elon likes those.) https://t.co/poejN9rhtI
Thought I'd stay on Twitter to keep a bigger platform for things I want to say. But in the past 2 weeks on #Mastodon, I've had a post hit 130 boosts, and another hit 305. Others have gone over 10 more routinely than my tweets have.
So I've got a bigger audience there. Already!
My apologies to anyone still using Gothpunk/Freak Nation/etc. email. I just noticed it's been down. I have restarted it and your email should now be arriving; if not, please restart your mail program. I'm sorry about that.
@coyotegoth Yeah, they *did* break here, in the past, but I'm not sure how possible that will be in the future. I think it'll be very hard for stories about injustice, particularly against marginalized people, to gain traction here anymore - and I'm sure that doesn't bother Musk at all.
So, let's take stock. In the past 2-3 weeks, Elon Musk has (in no particular order): π§΅
1οΈβ£ Fired practically all the content moderators
2οΈβ£ Reinstated all the kinds of people who had already demonstrated just why content moderation is necessary

Trying would not be a good use of our efforts. It's better if we just leave, and the quicker Twitter collapses, and is acknowledged to have done so, the better - for decent people and also for society and democracy.
You can find me on Mastodon. /end
The best course now is to let Twitter become worthless, a place nobody pays attention to anymore. Like Parler and Truth Social. That's where it's headed; it's inexorably going to be overrun with shitposters, disinformers, and Nazis. We can't possibly stop that. 6/
