130 schools said no.
He led the losingest program in college football history to a national championship anyway.
Fernando Mendoza was a 2-star recruit from Miami.
He tried to walk on at his hometown school. They passed.
So did FIU.
So did FAU.
So did everyone else.
At 17, he was sitting in his bedroom, crying over a silent recruiting inbox—after driving to 18 camps with his dad and sending highlights to more than 100 programs.
Not one FBS offer.
His only option? Yale. No scholarship. No NFL path.
Everyone told him to be “realistic.”
“Know your place.”
“Be grateful.”
He didn’t listen.
Because Mendoza understood something most people miss:
The worst outcome isn’t failing.
It’s never getting the chance to try.
Two weeks before signing day in 2022, his phone rang.
Cal needed a body. One offer. Out of 134 schools.
He took it.
He arrived as the third-string quarterback.
Spent a year on the scout team.
Lost his first four starts.
Got sacked 41 times behind a broken offensive line.
Still got up. Every time.
Then Cal brought in a transfer instead of building around him.
So Mendoza left the only school that had ever said yes.
He transferred to Indiana—the losingest program in college football history.
People laughed.
“Career suicide.”
“Graveyard program.”
“Nobody wins there.”
One coach told him something different:
“I’m going to make you the best Fernando Mendoza possible.”
That was enough.
Mendoza wasn’t just playing for football.
His mother has battled multiple sclerosis for 18 years.
Before every snap, he thought of her.
“My mother is my why.”
Indiana went 16–0.
Beat six Top-10 teams.
Won their first Big Ten title since 1945.
Mendoza threw 41 touchdowns.
Won the Heisman—first in school history.
First Cuban-American to ever do it.
Then came the title game.
Miami. Near his hometown.
Fourth-and-4. Season on the line.
Quarterback draw.
The kid 134 schools rejected spun through defenders and dove into the end zone.
Game over.
Indiana—national champions.
The losingest program became the best team in America.
All because a 17-year-old refused to believe “no” was the end.
Rankings don’t decide your ceiling.
Gatekeepers don’t write your ending.
Being overlooked isn’t a verdict—it’s a starting point.
Sometimes all you need is one shot…
and the courage to bet on yourself when nobody else will.
Don’t quit.

🚨 Vladdy Jr.’s Self-Talk Routine
• “Stay Calm”
• “Make him come to you”
• “Be smart. Look for a good pitch”
⭐️ Maximum focus happens when you are calm & confident. Breathing and self-talk can get you into that state.
Positive Thoughts = Positive Outcomes
Machine isn’t the same as hitting off an arm no matter how challenging you make it. It makes tons of guys worse, I’m seeing people promote it because the amount of hitters getting exponentially worse as a result of the focus is unreal. The problem is nobody wants to tell those stories.
An outstanding view of the same launch, therefore the same swing, the same Ferris wheel, being pivoted….or not….by the rear leg, to ball location.
Not much pivot in the first swing. Nice pivot in the second swing. Major pivot in the third swing.

Powerful: Browns' star QB Shedeur Sanders says scout team reps are his "gameday” and he loves playing with them.
"I have six games a week. I'm happy rather than having one game a week on weekends."
It's rare to see this type of maturity from a rookie.
Let's be different today. I know how u normally act, talk, reason & understand a certain way but today let's be different. Let's be a better YOU! Let's go beyond reason to make today a blessing, let's usher in Peace & let's impart love emphatically. Today baby Today. #CoachPrime
Do u see & understand the things u do? The things u are responsible for? The things that happen because of u? You are a Temperature changer, an environment changer & a game changer! You must be cognizant of who u are! #CoachPrime
Man. Don’t know how to explain it other than shock. Words cannot express the pain of this letdown. The frustration is unfathomable. I’ve worked my whole life to get to this moment and this is how it ends? Makes no sense.
Now that I’ve gotten surgery, I wish I could count the number of times people will tell me I’m going to “come back stronger”. What a cliche lol, this shit sucks. My foot feels like dead weight fam. But what’s hurting most I think is my mind. Feel like I’m rambling, but I know this is something I’ll look back on when I’m through this, as something I’m proud I fought through. It feels good to let this shit out without y’all seeing the kid ugly cry.
At 25, I’ve already learned that God never gives us more than we can handle. I know I’ll come out on the other side of this a better man and a better player. And honestly, right now, torn Achilles and all, I don’t regret it. I’d do it again, and again after that, to fight for this city and my brothers. For the chance to do something special.
Indy, I’m sorry. If any fan base doesn’t deserve this, it’s y’all. But together we are going to fight like hell to get back to this very spot, and get over this hurdle. I don’t doubt for a second that y’all have my back, and I hope you guys know that I have yours. I think Kobe said it best when in this same situation. “There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.” And that’s exactly right. I will do everything in my power to get back right.
My journey to get to where I am today wasn’t by happenstance, I’ve pushed myself every day to be great. And I will continue to do just that. The most important part of this all, is that I’m grateful. I’m grateful for every single experience that’s led me here. I’m grateful for all the love from the hoop world. I don’t “have to” go through this, I get to go through this. I’m grateful for the road that lies ahead. Watch how I come back from this. So, give me some time, I’ll dust myself off and get right back to being the best version of Tyrese Haliburton.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Stop involving yourself in simple minded gossip, lies & stories that don't make u look like the person u prayed to be. Fools attract Fools so don't engage into Foolery. Where u desire to go & who u desire to be, yo don't want or need that mess. #CoachPrime
Love will resurface in 2025! Hate flourished last year and it was pathetic. You hate and don’t recoup anything for it but a feeling for as long as it took u to press send. Hate is a tremendous insecurity and everybody knows who’s a hater. Let’s Love on Purpose in 2025 #CoacPrime
