Sadly, your incredible run in the Tour came to an end today. But we know you never give up, and we have no doubt you’ll come back stronger.

Over the past few days, a lot of important things have happened. In recent days, my attention has been focused on Lukashenko and the activity within the Russian-Belarusian-Chinese triangle.

For the first time after the meeting between Putin and Lukashenko at Valdai, there was neither a joint press conference, nor substantive statements, nor even the traditional demonstrative photo-op. The meeting lasted two days.

Immediately afterwards, Lukashenko urgently traveled to Beijing, and this visit was organized with unprecedented speed for China, where he was personally received by Xi Jinping.

The visit had not been planned or announced in advance. Therefore, it was urgent and important for both sides.

The Chinese leader emphasized support for Belarus’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Formally, this is a standard diplomatic formula. But in the current circumstances, it can be read as a signal: Beijing is declaring a protectorate over Belarus and indicating that it has its own interests there. And we know what those interests are - Belarus is a major producer of potash fertilizers, an important logistical hub between Russia and Europe, and part of the overland routes of Chinese trade.

The role of Minsk may be more complex than it appears.

As of now, it looks as though Lukashenko has rejected Putin’s demands to involve Belarus even more deeply in the war with Ukraine and has turned to Beijing for protection.
Time will tell whether these assumptions are correct.

If so, a serious shift in the geopolitical configuration of the region has occurred.
If China takes a more active position regarding Belarus (and Ukraine), I would not rule out that the countries of Central Asia will also listen less to Russia and increasingly turn toward China as the center of their interests.

Meanwhile, after the talks with Lukashenko, Putin made one of the most important statements of recent months. He did not simply reject the Ukrainian proposal for a mutual cessation of long-range strikes. He escalated - declaring the "complete liberation of Donbas and Novorossiya" as his goal. Putin is demonstrating readiness for further escalation and insists that future negotiations must concern not only Ukraine, but the entire system of European security.

Thus, we see that the war is increasingly transcending the framework of a bilateral conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It is becoming a Chinese-Russian tool for reshaping the entire European security system, and its further trajectory depends more and more on Beijing’s strategic calculations.

Russia launched a missile strike on Dnipro, targeting infrastructure. Rescue operations are still underway at the site. All emergency services are involved, helping people with everything they need. Tragically, five people have been confirmed killed as of now. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Twenty-nine people were wounded in the attack.

Russia also struck Zaporizhzhia today, targeting an ordinary passenger minibus. Three lives have been lost in this drone attack. My condolences. Six others were wounded, including a child. In Nikopol, the Russians carried out a double-tap strike on first responders and a fire engine. They also attacked energy infrastructure in the Sumy, Odesa, and Chernihiv regions, and launched strikes on Kherson and the Kharkiv region.

It is very important to counter this Russian terror. People need greater protection from such horrific attacks. Above all, we need anti-ballistic capabilities. It is essential that Europe is as active as possible in developing its own anti-ballistic defense – its own systems and missiles. The sooner we have more of these capabilities, the more lives we will be able to save.

This is staggering: The DOJ dropped an important criminal case into contaminated formula that may have sickened and killed kids.

Decisions like this, which place corporations and their profits above the safety and wellbeing of the public, are the product of a broken Justice Department.

Russia has not changed its strategic objectives, because as a dictator, Putin simply cannot stop short of them.
He will either be forced to retreat under overwhelming pressure - risking the loss of his power, and possibly his life - or he will continue pursuing them despite staggering losses.
Those objectives extend far beyond the conquest of Donbas. They include the destruction of Ukraine as a sovereign state and the dismantling of Europe's security architecture.
The West must not make the mistake of believing that Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities have already produced a decisive turning point or that Russia's economy is on the verge of collapse.
At this critical juncture, it is essential to impose maximum economic pressure through sanctions on Russia, as well as on others, who continue to help sustain Russia's war effort.

The tragedy is that many children learn the wrong lesson.

They learn that asking deep questions is somehow bad.

And when that happens, we lose something precious.

We lose intellectual resources.
We lose curiosity.
We lose future thinkers.

Because the complex and subtle problems we face can only be solved by people capable of complex and subtle thoughts.

A child’s question is not an interruption.

Sometimes, it is the beginning of science.

It's actually mind-boggling that @JDVance would say Watergate would be a "10 hour story" today.
Just to review, Nixon's aides authorized a break-in of the DNC HQ to install bugging equipment--in a caper foiled by a night watchman, who called police. They then enlisted the CIA to mislead the FBI that the break-in was related to a probe of malign foreign actors.
The entire operation was paid for by a slush fund controlled by the WH.
The WH also enlisted the IRS to probe hundreds of Nixon's political enemies.
The AG, the WH COS and several other top aides all were convicted and served time for their involvement in the crimes and coverup.
Nixon was caught on his own secret tape system conspiring with them but was pardoned a month after he resigned by his successor, Gerald Ford.
That Vance thinks this would be a "10 hour story" today speaks volumes about the moral and ethical degradation of the Trump era.
