An Ingham County judge today granted gubernatorial candidate Perry Johnson’s request for a preliminary injunction prohibiting candidate U.S. Rep. John James’ campaign from using advertising that says “John James Governor.”
This Corrects my earlier error
And more of my @michiganadvance.com coverage of ShotSpotter. Concerns raised about whether the city can properly exert oversight without knowing the locations of the sensors, privacy concerns from residents.

Detroit City Council is, as of yesterday, officially considering extending its ShotSpotter contract, which is set to expire at the end of June. Would extend to the end of March 2027, adding $2,058,778 to the contract. Referred to the Public Health And Safety Standing Committee.
I'll be continuing to report as this goes through the city council process. For context, check out my past @michiganadvance.com coverage on the tech and whether or not the results justify the steep price tag attached to it:

This is a bit misleading — in 2019, the ruling in Graveline v. Benson reduced the number of required sigs for non-affiliated candidates to 12,000. In current guidance from the Bureau of Elections on filing requirements, it specifies that the Graveline ruling replaced the MCL.
Now that we're over a day out from Tuesday's special election, what does that mean going forward? Both sides react: Democrats see Greene's wide margins and outperforming as a positive bellwether for the midterms, Republicans pointed to spending gaps.

Dems win the 35th District Special Election, meaning they maintain control of the Senate. @TunneyforSenate just conceded, @ChedrickGreene to address supporters in a few minutes.
Rep. @McdonaldRivet is feeling confident, telling reporters that @ChedrickGreene has "won outright some of the most Republican areas in this district." AP has around 9% of the vote in.
State Sen. @darrincamilleri also said that he's feeling good about results so far, saying, "We're gonna win tonight. We're feeling very comfortable with where we're at."

@ChedrickGreene “You can feel the vibe that people are just excited about the process,” Chris Swanson, Genesee County sheriff and Dem gubernatorial candidate said. “People know it can go a couple different ways, but the process is still respected. People still love the elections of our country.”
It's special election day in Michigan! I'll be up in Saginaw later today to speak with voters and talk to candidates about this race, which will determine control of the Senate for the rest of 2026 and is considered by many a bellwether for November.
“We just talk about process over results,” Tunney told me just now. “We can control the process, but we can’t control the results. We feel good about the process we’ve put in. We feel really good about the last three weeks out of enthusiasm, a lot of momentum.”

A preview from last week, including details on who's been coming to bat for both Democrat Chedrick Greene and Republican Jason Tunney.

Ven Johnson, one of the lawyers for the family, said that if police emptied the magazine, "There is no way that happened here, by the way, zero, and if it did... that’d be the biggest screw up of all time in investigation history"
For @MichiganAdvance: Having reviewed a redacted copy of a Michigan State Police report into the fatal shooting of Da’Quain Johnson by a GRPD officer, the lawyers representing Johnson and his family said it “does nothing but open even more inquiries.” https://t.co/xta8adUX2c
