My biggest change was regarding the merit-based pay versus pay on seniority. I changed to a 10, compared to about a 6 beforehand and that was because of all of the readings like the Irreplaceables which have concrete data about how new teachers can be more effective! #TAPUW
The discussion today was very interesting as it seemed like many of us had overlapping ideas but where they fell into the timeline of teaching varied a bit! The simulation was quite difficult mainly because of the time frame, as I am a very slow reader compared to most! #TAPUW
But also gave me a lot of perspective on grading and how tedious it should be yet because it takes so long, it is very difficult to put in effort into each and every one of your students!
International schools definitely sound very appealing, yet I can’t help but feel guilty and bad for not teaching kids that really need it, instead of the children of the elite in the world. But again, it certainly sounds incredibly appealing to just pack up and move abroad!#TAPUW
(From August 1st) I thought the inspirational short was very powerful and it made me feel strongly about teaching as a profession. I thought YiCheng and Jialin did an awesome job in facilitating as I felt like they were very confident even though they may have been nervous #TAPUW
I felt so compelled listening to Dr. Enfield speak, everything she said really resonated with me. And we have to take action, I don’t know what that looks like yet but we have to! We have to try our best to make sure every child feels “safe, welcomed and respected” #TAPUW
Really enjoyed hearing Randy speak to us about his experiences, as I agreed with what he said about kids needing to learn to read so early and how that has negative implications and also really resonated with what he was saying about his parents’ expectations for him #TAPUW
I really enjoyed the debate today! I thought it was a brave risk to take in facilitating but really worked as it did “facilitate” lots of discussion between us all! Great job, Toni and Sally! #TAPUW
@inquiryfive I thought it was quite different as working at the gates foundation is (to me) quite a different profession than teaching, as it seems to be from a systemic lens, as opposed to a classroom lens. But Ky also had both viewpoints which was interesting.
I was quite intrigued by Doug and Nicholas’s facilitation as it was not what I expected but I really appreciated the risks that they took and how much planning and effort they clearly put into it! I also enjoyed hearing from Ky, as his perspective was quite different! #TAPUW
Absolutely loved Brandon’s story and I can only imagine how powerful of a teacher he is! I really resonated with a couple of his experiences in elementary school and I was often bullied and excluded for similar reasons. It is really amazing to hear someone persevere. #TAPUW#grit
I really enjoyed hearing our guest speakers experiences as I felt myself nodding my head to just about everything she said. But I’m also infuriated with what she said about her school’s saying regarding standardized testing. It really upset me hearing that! #TAPUW
Missing class today really bummed me out as I had a great convo with Sabil on Tuesday. But I have no doubt that Mackenzie will rise to the challenge and help her out. I hope that everyone had fun making the podcasts! #TAPUW
There was a lot going on today! Dietrich and I facilitated the first hour of class and then the middle schoolers came! The person I worked with was so great, she was very professional, had some thought provoking questions and had some great ideas! #TAPUW
I enjoyed hearing our guest speaker’s experiences in education. I found myself nodding along to just about everything she said, and especially nodding to her responses for the last question about changing policy. I especially appreciate her comment about mental health. #TAPUW
Dietrich and I both shared group project stories in which we both found ourselves doing a majority of the work, so after a little research of group project memes, we stumbled upon one with this caption and decided to take our own photo!
