Today, I took my children, Imad and Adam, along with my sister’s children—Elaine, Maher, and Ahmed—to the sea in Gaza. 🌊❤️
For a few hours, we forgot the heat inside the tent. We forgot the sounds of war and let the children laugh the way every child deserves to laugh.
I swam with them, looked at their smiling faces, and prayed that one day they would have a normal childhood—without fear, displacement, or war.
We may not be able to change our reality today, but we are trying to create beautiful memories for our children in the midst of all this pain.
These small moments are what give us the strength to keep going. 💙🍉
War criminals shouldn’t be allowed to walk freely in NYC. As the Gaza genocide continues, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is visiting our city next week for a summit at the UN. He’s responsible for the torture of Palestinian detainees, the abuse of freedom flotilla peace activists including New Yorkers, the expansion of illegal settlements and promotion of settler violence, and openly espousing his genocidal intent to ethnically cleanse Palestine.
Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom have all placed sanctions and travel restrictions on him for his crimes against humanity. New York shouldn’t be a safe haven for him either. We’re calling on @NewYorkStateAG to meet with his victims, investigate, and prosecute. And we’ll be assembling by the UN on Tuesday at 4pm to make it clear: if genocidal war criminals come to our city, they’ll be greeted by people demanding justice.
@MarcoFoster_@LibyaLiberty This is probably true most of the time, but I don’t love it as a talking point. A person who won’t speak the truth about Israel is either an idiot, a monster, or a coward. All three are disqualifying, even if they will fight for healthcare.
Today, a record 187 Members of Congress joined me and @repdeliaramirez to vote to end U.S. support for the Israeli government's ethnic cleansing campaign in Lebanon. Our anti-war movement is growing—keep speaking out. We must keep fighting to save lives.
A reminder of how horrific things have been and for how long. In 2014, the Israeli military dropped a missile on Palestinians watching the World Cup on the beach in Gaza killing 8 Palestinians while they watched Argentina play the Netherlands. Here's how the @nytimes framed the headline:
Seeing lots of people argue that NYC isn't a bellwether on Palestine/Israel for the rest of the US bc it's uniquely progressive. But NYC is among the most demographically Zionist cities outside of Israel, not to mention the seat of reactionary establishment financial power. These wins are in spite of that.
This is completely missing the point of his defeat. Dan Goldman is very liberal! He is pro-abolish ICE, pro-M4A, and pro Green New Deal. He's to the left, on most every issue, of the median House Democrat in 2018. He lost specifically for being so pro-Israel - there is no constituency in a primary or a general for someone with that profile anymore
This is being posted as some sort of gotcha, but this is what Israel’s actions have done to its image. People who started out as fierce opponents of Hamas or Hezbollah have watched Israel in action for 2.5 years and they think, ok, well, I get it now
This is not a serious article! If you bemoan Ben-Gvir without even *mentioning* the broad swath of Israeli society that falls somewhere between reactionary right wing and proudly genocidal, you are not engaging with the problem in any sense. Israelis revolted against the gov’s judicial reforms in 2023 and got results. Now? Barely a peep. BG is the symptom not the disease.
@JillFilipovic This feels willfully dense? The focus of the article is clearly the journalist’s, not hers. Her website describes her priorities for her district, only one of which is related to foreign policy. If you don’t like her as a candidate just say so.
A few people I respect are more bothered than I am by the reporting on Platner’s life and past choices. But let us be absolutely clear that the breathless, nonstop coverage of those issues cannot be separated from the establishment’s loathing and rage about statements like this ^^^
A deal has been reached between the U.S. and Iran. Watch for Israel to escalate its killing of Palestinians and bombing in Lebanon to try and sabotage it.
Israel is the biggest threat to regional peace.
Elon Musk held up a chainsaw, fed USAID into the wood chipper, and at least 600,00 people have already died as a result - two-thirds of them children.
History's first trillionaire.
I cannot begin to express how bizarre to have a sale of Palestinian land stolen by jews, with the houses sold to jews, that is condemned by no major rabbi, jewish group, nor prominent jewish figures, and people trying to tell you this has nothing to do with the jewish community.
