It's okay to not be okay. You are not alone. And there is help available when you need it.
Here is a list of crisis support resources: https://t.co/BqfyC1TJps
We must continue to offer more paths to the classroom for qualified educators. It's essential for our kids’ success. My budget will:
✏️Continue MI Future Educator
Fellowship
✏️Pay student teachers
It's time to give students, parents, and teachers the support they need to thrive!
@mfike1221@KelseyTCooper15@Milken This sounds amazing. Not sure what we could do with the different grade levels, but I’d love to connect with your classes.
There are still teachers out here that are excited to step foot in that classroom every morning despite the need for overwhelming systemic change.
Not sure who needs to see this in their feed.
Maybe it’s me.
@MrLandesman @EdFuller_PSU @MarshDuxfemina Who is to decide what constitutes a “difficult assignment”? Amazing assumptions in this thread about the ease of teaching honors students. Each classroom has its own unique challenges. Our energy should be focused on getting a great teacher in front of every student.
@Dsrussosusan@CmonMattTHINK I give problems, but removed the punishment of a “0” for not doing them. Same amount of students do them as before. Got rid of the tense conversations, excuses, and copying answers/cheating to get credit.
@KellCusmano@blocht574@sarah_giddings1@Lyricalswordz @jessica_salfia Important to remember that relationships take time to build, especially at the HS level. It’s backwards for some, but I like to do math right away and ease into the relationship building after the first week ambush of icebreakers/rules from other teachers settles down.
4. Respecting teacher voice on developing solutions to problems at the local, state, and national levels. Teachers need to be at the table when important policy decisions are being made.
All students deserve a qualified and dedicated teacher in their classroom. Assuming loosening standards will make thousands of professionals from other fields willing and able to fill that role is poor policy and does nothing to address the root causes of the teacher shortage.
3. Aggressive recruitment of the next generation of teachers with incentives for pursuing a career in education. Investment in “grown your own” teacher programs at the high school level.
