This summer has been one for the books filled with rest, relaxation and renewal. All the things I needed to prepare for this new adventure.
Excited to finally share this update! https://t.co/LvYUOWBezF

Something in me just couldn’t quite come to terms with the verdict as some “relief” because in my gut, I knew. Like so many other Black people, we knew.
Then the news broke about Ma’Khia.
We knew it. 😞💔
When the verdict came down yesterday I felt - numb. Like I should be happy, but couldn’t quite get there, some sense of relief but really just overwhelming sadness bc it did not have to get there. George Floyd did not have to die.
Then it was this deep sense of dread that they would try to make the man who murdered George some kind of “outlier” instead of an overwhelming reelection of the flawed system as a whole.
Just about every educator I know - especially HS - has witnessed and/or broken up a fight. In fact, when they did happen, we made every effort to not only break up fights safely, but to do so before authorities were called bc we knew their presence would escalate matters
Our priority was keeping kids safe. Helping them navigate all that they were feeling and then heal as a community.
Ma’Khia did not receive that level of regard or care. The fact that she called for help and lost her life is insane.
I don’t quite have the words to describe all that’s happening right now. I think part of Black womanhood is living in a constant state of suspended animation. Like if we let every single thing that happens in a day fully penetrate our whole being, we would not make it.
Take care of yourselves today, loves. Hold space for yourself. Unplug. Log out. Pray. Meditate. Journal.
Be in community with those who lift you up. Whatever you need, do that. 💛
Our hearts are with the family of #DaunteWright as they process this tragic loss. To all who are protesting yet another senseless murder by police - be safe, be strong.
