Family members of those killed and survivors, along with PANYNJ Chairman Kevin O'Toole, PANYNJ Executive Director Kathryn Garcia, Charlie Maikish, former director of the World Trade Center Department for @PANYNJ, @NYPDnews Commissioner Jessica Tisch, members of both departments, as well as @FDNY, helped commemorate the anniversary and its place in history.
From the Collection: This shirt was worn by Eugene Fasullo during the February 26, 1993 terrorist bombing of the World Trade Center. After a truck bomb exploded in the underground parking garage, smoke and darkness filled the towers. Fasullo was trapped in an elevator for more than four hours as first responders worked to evacuate thousands. The soot stains on this shirt bear witness to that day.
On February 26, 1993, at 12:18 p.m., terrorists detonated approximately 1,200 pounds of explosives in a rental van in the underground parking garage at the #WTC. The explosion created a five-story, 150-feet-wide crater, injured more than a thousand & killed six people. These are the events that unfolded that day.
On February 26, 1993, the World Trade Center was targeted in a terrorist attack that claimed six innocent lives and injured more than a thousand others. Today, we remember those who were killed and honor their lives.
