A mass memorial service for the 14 uniformed officers and two civilians who died in last week’s Mariental car accident is scheduled to take place today at the Persiana Stadium in Mariental.

Mourners, including security service chiefs and government officials, are arriving at the venue.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to deliver a tribute during the service.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, the police chief, has released the names of the officers killed in the Mariental car crash on Saturday.

Shikongo said two sisters were among those who died.

The deceased are:

1. Senior Chief Correctional Officer David Mawis Musambani (Male)

2. Chief Correctional Officer Naimi Ndapewashali Shipena (Female)

3. Chief Correctional Officer Silvanus Kuutondokwa Hofeni (Male)

4. Senior Correctional Officer Simon Ndumba Sinyemba (Male)

5. Senior Correctional Officer Alina Ndategaiko Simeon (Female)

6. Senior Correctional Officer Petrus Muataua Mbuale (Male)

7. Senior Correctional Officer Noa Mandume Hameho (Male)

8. Correctional Officer Two Tomas Negumbo Shikongo (Male)

9. Correctional Officer Two Adresheid Taapopi (Female)

10. Correctional Officer One Johannes Mbeeli (Male)

11. Correctional Officer One Katjitombua Muhue (Male)

12. Correctional Officer One Jason Jackson Jatileni Amadhila (Male)

13. Sergeant Mercia Louw (Female)

14. Constable Gerson Hepute (Male)

15. Roseltha Higoam (Female)

16. Diana Jagger (Female)

Shikongo said the next of kin of all the deceased have been informed.

The accident occurred on Saturday when the officers were being transported to duty.

Four survivors remain hospitalised in critical condition.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
