@wrightfamily5@Stephan19421962 Interesting perspective. I have noticed this in my class but just assumed it was families doing things for their children.
@Stephan19421962 Our role is to scaffold student's learning. If we start handing out technology, our roles are essentially replaced. We are no longer needed. "There’s no reason why kids can’t figure it out when they get older.” The New York Times
@DanylukJanelle@Stephan19421962 I think this pandemic has shown us just how important those interactions for little ones are. It's hard to create connection and maintain focus when technology is involved. If there is a screen in front of them, their focus is solely on that.
@wrightfamily5@Stephan19421962 Yes! Let them play. Technology can have a place later on when independent and group research becomes a part of the curriculum. I believe in a play based curriculum, and there's not a lot of room for technology there. The odd time I like to show Jack Hartman or Mystery Doug.
@DanylukJanelle@Stephan19421962 I completely agree Janelle. I've only just introduced iPads to my class for the first time, and am now limiting them to Friday's only because I don't want my students to lose the social interaction piece that is so important for them
@Stephan19421962 I believe that the Waldorf approach in schools where zero technology is utilized provides ample opportunity for students curiosity and creativity to come through. However, you might miss out on opportunities, such as a real-life author read allouds like we had in my class today.
@Stephan19421962 I think there is a place for tech in the classroom IF there is a Focus on the content, context, and the child. You know the child best, Tune into the child and see what they understand from what they have viewed.
