UPDATE: GNK Aerospace Chemical Spill

Authorities warn the failing 34,000-gallon tank at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove could either rupture and spill 6,000–7,000 gallons of toxic methyl methacrylate into the ground or explode in a thermal runaway.

Evacuation orders remain active for ~40,000 residents across Garden Grove, Cypress, Stanton, Anaheim, Buena Park, and Westminster. No injuries reported. Schools are closed and roads blocked in the zone.

Main shelters are at capacity with overflow. Evacuees and first responders can use all Planet Fitness locations across Orange County for free showers, locker rooms, rest areas, Wi-Fi, and outlets—no membership needed. Additional open sites include Savanna High School (Anaheim), Stanton Community Center, and others as space allows.

With ongoing risk of chemical reaching storm drains, use bottled water for drinking and monitor official updates before using tap water for bathing. Crews continue 24/7 water cooling operations to stabilize the tank.
