Greetings @TheChessAngle I have a question: Suppose Player A beats Player B in round 1 of a 5-round swiss. Player B then withdraws from the tournament. Wouldn’t that negatively impact Player A’s tiebreaks such as the Buchholz (sum of opponents’ scores)?
@SusanPolgar@carissayipchess@FIDE_chess@USChessChamps Her win over Irina Krush is a sensational game. Ignoring a possible repetition with Ne5 - allowing white to penetrate on the b file - must have taken nerves of steel!
@julesgambit I truly believe chess is for everyone. I also believe chess as a whole benefits from having more people play.
I don’t believe men have a biological advantage in chess - just a numbers advantage.
Studying game 20 of the Smyslov-Botvinik 1957 World championship and here the top engine move is 17…Bxd3. Why? I thought it was a mistake to help your opponent straighten out the pawn structure.
@gauss1181@chichesscenter You should write a book about your quest to play in all 50 states. How did the quest begin? What was your biggest challenge? How did you stay motivated? Perhaps include a game or position from each state in order.
My run in the 2024 Daily Championship came to a halt. I finished round 2 at 17-5, which is good enough for 3rd place - 2 points behind the group winner.
This is short of my goal of making round 3. However 38 overall wins and 17 rd 2 wins are both personal bests.
The good news: At 15-2 so far in round 2 of the daily championship, I can clinch a spot in round 3 by going 4-1 in my last 5 games.
The bad news: I think I am winning in only 1 of them.
So looks like I am going to fall short again this year.
