Monterey County has been randomly selected for a state campaign finance audit by the California Fair Political Practices Commission.
This is not a criminal case and not an accusation. It is independent oversight.
The FPPC will review local campaign filings from the most recent election cycle to check whether money was reported correctly, on time, and in full.
Audits often uncover late filings, missing disclosures, and repeat errors by campaign treasurers or consultants. Sometimes they lead to enforcement actions.
The audit process ends with a public report.
Bottom line, outside state oversight is now looking at how campaign money moved in Monterey County. Transparency matters.
