We should not be like those who think enjoining good and forbidding evil means always being overly harsh and condescending or that they should immediately shun and abandon their brother or sister when they sin, nor like those who abandon enjoining good and forbidding evil altogether because they think it contradicts mercy. Rather, we must enjoin good and forbid evil using the wisdom we were taught by Allah and Allah's Messenger (may Allah honour and save him), putting everything in its proper place.

If you are struggling to benefit from your time as a student of knowledge, perhaps what you need is focus. Focus on one thing, one book within one subject, perhaps two if you think you have the capacity, but one is ideal. It may not seem like it but you will progress faster doing one thing at a time, especially if you are memorising. The most important thing is that you have a specific thing that you are doing everyday.

Perhaps you are memorising, reading or studying online or with a teacher, pick one book on your level and focus on it until you complete it. That way, you know what you are doing everyday. When you wake up in the morning, you already know what you're going to do instead of being all over the place, reading a little of this or a little of that and then abandoning it before you get anywhere. Try it and you shall, by Allah's Will, see a huge difference and much progress.

And remember that success is only granted by Allah, The All-Knowing, The Ever Wise.
