@jamescham@f_j_j_ This is also one of those spaces where i feel like the people who specialize in each of those haven't fully worked out the dynamic between those ecosystems as published product.
@jamescham@f_j_j_ Yeah the fact that the distinction between reporting, analysis and commentary isn't clearer is a bummer. Part of that feels like a consumer packaging problem, since pieces of writing may contain any combination.
I think Sinofsky’s insight extends to social artifacts in general. Once everyone can do something, you aren’t differentiated. Once you aren’t differentiated, nobody cares...
@jamescham I was going to note that our kid's school requires everyone who volunteers to go through fingerprinting, but asking even guest lecturers to be background checked is craaaazy
@jamescham Oooh, I think I need to hear more about the scope is the deliberations. Is this a family or friends group trying to settle on plans, or another type of group that is trying to make tactical or strategic decisions?
And we can reflect on which scifi stories or tropes chat bots most resemble. It's definitely not StarTrek's Data or Starfleet's ship computers.
For my money it's more like virtual reality in the Red Dwarf books.
I am much more vehement about this. I think that OpenAI's product choices are deeply deeply antisocial and inhumane.
The way that they've implemented chat bots are isolating, sycophantic and have no reality in your relationships with others save for how you represent them.
i have a theory that those more susceptible to relationships with chatbots do not have groupchats in their lives
the groupchat is, imo, an indispensable part of modern life in a world where we commune IRL less
one needs a place to BS and get checked by friends on dumb stuff
These are _choices_ that OpenAI, Anthropic et al have made. There's no reason these technologies _have to_ work like this.
Even Grok here is at least mildly more social in terms of how people interact with it.
