Now, 52% of young adults live with their parents—the highest rate ever, surpassing even the Great Depression.
The most educated and most indebted generation in history did everything they were supposed to do and got this.
The system. Does. Not. Work.
BOOMER PARENT: You need to stop throwing money away on rent and buy a house.
GEN Z: Average entry-level homes here are $450k and rates are stuck at 7 percent.
BOOMER PARENT: Then just save up a twenty percent down payment.
GEN Z: That is ninety thousand dollars cash. I am paying two thousand a month just to lease a basic one-bedroom.
BOOMER PARENT: We bought our first four-bedroom house on a single entry-level salary. You just lack discipline.
GEN Z: Your house cost forty-five thousand dollars in 1985.
BOOMER PARENT: Stop making excuses and work harder.
Meanwhile, institutional corporate landlords continue buying up entire starter-home neighborhoods in cash to rent them back to us forever.
I still DO NOT understand how so many of you were hoodwinked into believing the government should not use the money you pay in taxes to create a social safety net that benefits you, fund public healthcare, lower housing costs, and make daily life more affordable.
Apparently marijuana was in the files. They were speaking how people who smoke marijuana are harder to manipulate because it makes us open our mind and question things more, whereas alcohol does the opposite effect. Which is why alcohol is heavily promoted while marijuana is demonized.
The financial math for an ordinary car payment has gotten completely out of hand.
The average new car payment is now sitting at 738 dollars a month……
with standard auto loan interest rates averaging 7.1%. When you factor in that the average monthly cost of car insurance has spiked to 218 dollars, a regular worker is burning nearly 1,000 dollars every single month just to own a vehicle to drive to work.
Over 20% of your take-home pay is gone before you even buy a single gallon of gas.
Let that sink in.
@oasishealthapp Our food legislation is all fucked up. Carrageenan is in everything, and big pharma uses it on lab rats to induce inflammation for drug testing.
@Simonmms@oasishealthapp Can you achieve an indistinguishable nutritional result tho? Or is it more that the elites want the rest eat this lab grown slop while they eat real meat?
I think I speak for the boomers and I know I speak for myself. We will not accept a reduction of even 1 dollar. Sorry. We didn’t choose this system you did…we’ll just take what was promised thanks…
Average annual cost of infant daycare: $11,600
Average annual cost of in-state college tuition: $11,260
Daycare costs more than college.
You’re paying tuition before your kid can even talk.
Because community is dead. Who are your neighbours? Who could you call locally in an emergency? Do you know? I blame the internet for this but it’s also insane work hours, absurdly late retirement, and limited third spaces. Before, you could expect a friend or relative to watch your children for a few afternoons a week and for older local teens to keep an eye on them while they played outside. My parents weren’t judged at all on weekends for letting me out at 8am on my bike and come home by dark, because we all knew each other in the village and someone would be around if I grazed my knee.
Now that burden falls 100% on mothers who already work full time. Many have absent or low-effort dads. So you get 7am-9am school run, 9am-5pm work, 5pm-10pm supervise and cook and clean, plus no time off from the kids on weekends. Plus rocketing rent, no home ownership, and ever increasing food and bills. Who wants that? Who can do all that? No thank you!
