Popping back in to share my new paper on #SSBTax impact and equity. Using longitudinal data on food purchases (Nielsen homescan), we find large decreases in sweetened bev purchases in four US cities after taxes are implemented, especially in lower-income households.
Health Economics (Early View): As obesity and diabetes rates grow, many localities have implemented taxes on sugary foods. A new study suggests that taxes on sugary beverages can decrease consumption by up to 50%, depending on the income of the consumer.

8 U.S. cities have taxed sugary drinks to address obesity & Type 2 diabetes. A @UWecon@knoxmecon study found that lower-income households cut sweetened drink purchases by 50%, suggesting these taxes may help reduce health disparities.
