🍊KOAN was at the inaugural #AfricaFruitConnect2026 (6–8 Oct) to explore opportunities in Africa’s fruit sector.
Our message look for the Kilimohai Mark to help consumers identify certified organic fruits & connect producers to stronger regional markets.🤝

Agroecology doesn’t end at the farm! It reaches your plate.
As consumers, we are an important part of Kiambu’s food system.
The Kiambu Agroecology Policy seeks to strengthen food systems that connect sustainable production with access to safe, nutritious and diverse food.
And consumers have a role too.
By becoming more aware of where our food comes from, how it is produced and who produces it, we can contribute to stronger local food systems and create demand for sustainably produced food.
From the soil to the farmer, to the market, to your plate. We are all connected.
30 October 2026 | Kiambu Agroecology Policy Launch

What does the Kiambu Agroecology Policy mean for farmers?
Farmers are at the heart of Kiambu’s food system and definitely, at the heart of agroecology.
The Policy provides a framework for strengthening agroecological production through farmer knowledge, sustainable farming practices, healthier soils, biodiversity conservation and access to appropriate support and information.
It is about creating an enabling environment where farmers can produce food, sustain their livelihoods and care for the natural resources on which agriculture depends.
When farmers thrive, our food systems thrive.
As we head towards 30 October, we continue unpacking the Kiambu Agroecology Policy-one conversation at a time.

Why does Kiambu need agroecology?
Our food systems face growing pressures. From declining soil health and changing climate conditions to rising production costs and the need for safe, nutritious food.
Agroecology offers an opportunity to rethink how we produce food while caring for the natural resources that farming depends on.
Through her Agroecology Policy, Kiambu County is creating a framework to support sustainable production, healthier soils, biodiversity, resilient livelihoods and better food systems.
And this journey cannot be made by farmers alone. It calls for farmers, consumers, government, researchers, businesses and communities to work together.
Healthy farms. Healthy people. Healthy ecosystems.

What's on your vegetables?
Pesticide residues can reach our plates.
The report "Pesticide Residues in Selected Vegetables from Kenyan Markets" identifies the problem and offers practical solutions.
How do you prepare yours? Read on
https://t.co/SkFAkzywNP
The Auditor-General found no continuous monitoring of pesticide residues in our food, and @KoanKenya and @routetofood found pesticide residues in over 70% of market vegetables sampled.

@NationAfrica
What exactly is the Kiambu Agroecology Policy?
It is more than a document.
The Policy provides a framework for Kiambu County to promote farming and food systems that support healthy soils, safe and nutritious food, resilient livelihoods, biodiversity and environmental conservation. It also recognizes that transforming our food systems requires everyone; farmers, consumers, government, researchers, civil society and the private sector.
As we count down to the official launch on 30 October 2026, we’ll be breaking down what the Policy means in practice.
Know the Policy. Understand your role. Be part of implementation.
Are legal limits on pesticide residue in food about health, or just trade?
Research by @routetofood and @KoanKenya found pesticide residues in 78% of market vegetables.
So is safe food only for export?
