President John Dramani Mahama sees off Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados following her participation in the Next Steps High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparatory Justice and the historic joint observance of Juneteenth by Africa and the United States, held in Accra.
During the conference, leaders endorsed an outcome document and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a shared agenda for historical justice, truth-telling, restitution, and stronger cooperation between Africa, the Caribbean, and the global African diaspora.
President Mahama expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Mottley for her leadership, advocacy, and steadfast commitment to the pursuit of reparatory justice, while reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to working with partners across Africa and the Caribbean to advance a more just and equitable future.
The conference marked a significant milestone in the global movement for reparatory justice and strengthened the longstanding bonds between Africa, the Caribbean, and people of African descent around the world.

President John Dramani Mahama has called for greater unity among Africans and people of African descent across the world, stating that the shared history and enduring impact of the transatlantic slave trade require a collective response rooted in justice, solidarity, and common purpose.
Speaking at the historic Juneteenth commemoration in Ghana, President Mahama noted that for generations, the voices of Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, and Latin America were fragmented, despite being connected by a common history of suffering and resilience.
The President described the joint observance of Juneteenth by Africa and the United States as a significant milestone, honoring the descendants of enslaved Africans who endured oppression and celebrating their strength, perseverance, and faith. He noted that Juneteenth commemorates the freedom of enslaved people in the United States who remained in bondage for two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.
President John Dramani Mahama said the gathering at Christiansborg Castle in Osu, one of the sites linked to the transatlantic slave trade, symbolized a renewed commitment to speaking with one voice and strengthening ties between Africa and its diaspora.
He emphasized that the global pursuit of justice extends beyond reparations and the restitution of cultural artifacts, calling instead for a more equitable world where opportunity, dignity, and prosperity are accessible to all.
“This is an example of speaking with one voice. Our work goes beyond reparations and the return of artifacts. It is advocacy for a more equal world, a world that offers opportunity to everyone, a fair and just world,” President Mahama stated.

Slave trade REENACTED at Ghana’s Osu Castle
Used to 'hold captive Africans before they were transported across Atlantic'
Reps from 80+ African and Caribbean states meet in Ghana's capital to demand FULL apologies from ex-colonial powers
🇬🇭🇺🇸 Juneteenth reenactment in Ghana: Dramatic staging of the slave trade outside a former fortress in Accra, as they host a UN conference declaring slavery the 'gravest crime against humanity.'
The actual reality: African kingdoms like Dahomey and Ashanti raided rival tribes, captured millions, and sold them to European traders at these same coastal forts.
Slavery was already widespread in Africa.
In 2026, hereditary slavery persists in Mauritania and trafficking thrives across Nigeria and the Sahel, with almost zero accountability.
Selective outrage at its finest.

A depiction of the slave trade was staged on Juneteenth outside a fortress in Accra that once served as a hub for transporting slaves. Ghana has been hosting a conference there that aims to advance the UN resolution that declared slavery the 'gravest crime against humanity'.
🚨 HOW MANY MORE MUST DIE? 🚨@highwaysghana
The state of the Nsawam–Suhum Motorway is a national emergency that can no longer be ignored. Open manholes, deep potholes, and long stretches without streetlights have turned a major highway into a death trap.
We are not speaking from hearsay. We are speaking as survivors.
A single manhole on the highway was all it took to change our lives forever. In a split second, our vehicle plunged into it, lost control, and rolled over several times. What should have been a normal journey became a nightmare of twisted metal, shattered glass, and the terrifying uncertainty of whether we would make it out alive.
By the grace of God, we survived. Many others have not been that fortunate.
Every day, innocent road users leave their homes hoping to arrive safely, only to be met by dangerous road conditions that should never exist on a major highway. Families are losing loved ones. Children are becoming fatherless and motherless. Dreams are being buried because basic road maintenance and lighting have been neglected.
To the Ghana Highway Authorities and all responsible agencies:
How many more accidents must happen?
How many more vehicles must be destroyed?
How many more lives must be lost before urgent action is taken?
No Ghanaian should have to gamble with their life simply by using a public road.
The time for excuses is over. Fix the potholes. Cover the manholes. Install streetlights. Save lives.
We survived to tell our story. Others may not get that chance. 💔🕯️

Yesterday was my final day as Director of National Intelligence. I declassified and released never-before-seen documents exposing the truth about Fauci directing millions of US taxpayer dollars to fund dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, worked with the Intelligence Community to suppress the truth about his actions and hide the virus’ lab-leak origins, and lied to Congress while under oath in 2024. It’s time you know the truth. Go to https://t.co/tVwWp0TxZ4 to see for yourself.
On Friday at Osu Castle, we adopted the 'Next Steps' outcome document for reparatory justice.
