The first weights are from a relatively short Objects365 pre-training schedule, using aggressive backbone layer decay to preserve the PE-Spatial representations.

This was done using DINOv2 distillation as described in the paper (and implemented at Birder 😉).

I must say, the distillation runs surprisingly fast...
