Na who give we rice we go arise
Na who give we maize we go amaze
You’re such an indefatigable citizen !
Your reward is not only in heaven but here on earth. You’ll taste and see the goodness here too.
It has become ever clearer to me that Ghanaian politicians are like most politicians the world over.
But citizen-LOYALISTS of Ghanaian politicians are some of the worst in the world.
Mind you, I am not talking about citizens in general. I don't accept the idea that "citizens are to blame for the country's woes". I am talking here about loyalists.
1. Political loyalists in Ghana have no clear convictions of their own about any important matter in the country.
2. They therefore wait to see where their leaders are moving, then they instantly develop convictions in support.
3. They have no independent standards of policy, performance, problem-solving, or quality of ideas.
4. So they wait for their leaders to declare that something has been done well, then they go around looking for every means to justify the declaration.
5. They have no clear expectation of what the country can, will, or should become.
6. Hence, they wait for their leaders to paint all pictures of the past, present, and the future for them and then fiercely insist that this picture is the truth.
7. When a politician has such followers, they lose sight of the country since the followers never really produce any feedback from their own true beliefs. The followers only discuss their group and personal grievances and hopes.
8. When a politician has such followers, they find all other citizens presumptuous, arrogant, all-knowing, highly negative, impossible to please, and eventually better to ignore as irrelevant.
9. When a politician has such followers, they begin to consider themselves to be magicians. Whatever they will into being shall and must happen. Since their followers blow to and fro like chaff, they begin to think that political and economic reality will also kowtow to their whims.
10. If you go and bring even Jesus Christ and give him such disciples, he will be tempted to forget about the cross and remain at supper in Jerusalem!
If there is one good thing you can do as a citizen, it is this: become a critical political follower with real standards who gives good and thoughtful feedback to your favourite leaders about national/public affairs based on genuine conviction!
