Currently, 80% of Kenyans receive Pharmaceutical care competently provided to them by the Kenyan Pharmaceutical technologists who are found in the remotest parts of this country.

The geographical presence of Pharmaceutical technologists spans from rural, peri-urban, low settlements and urban areas of this Country. While that of Pharmacists is mostly dormant in the cities and urban areas of this country.

This has been the cause of proliferation of Quacks in the pharmaceutical sector where for every one registered pharmacy premise, there exists three other unregistered pharmacy outlets. This happens due to the gap in the number of pharmacy practitioners.

It must be notable that all these two Pharmacy practitioners combined are not sufficient to provide Pharmaceutical care to the 56 Million Kenyans in the country.

WHO ARE PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGISTS.

The ratio of Pharmaceutical technologists to that of the Pharmacist is 3:1. It means that for every three pharmaceutical technologists there exists one Pharmacist.

There exists another cadre in the Pharmacy sector called the Pharmacist whose qualification is Bachelor in Pharmacy. Currently, there exists a paltry 4000 Pharmacists in the Country.

They also go through 2 Levels of proficiency exams provided by the regulatory body-Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
